Beach glamour girls...around 1955.
When I was a kid, the best time of the year was holidays at Kirra on Queensland's Gold Coast (where I now live). We lived on a 10,000 acre farm about 500 miles inland. Hot, dry, tough going. Rough dirt roads half the way, usually at least one flat tyre and lots of stops at relatives along the way, but oh the excitement when we smelled that sea air. My folks had a holiday house near the beach and we had the best times. Family friends from the bush came for their holidays too, and we would all meet at the beach for a swim, then to the Kirra pub for a beer, then get togethers at night. In those days, our farm had no electricity (apart from a 32 volt generator), and to go on holidays and have a hire tv was wonderful. It was usually one of those old round PYE TV's with the rabbit ears on top. Great memories, a few old classics I hope you don't mind me sharing.
My mum on the right, and friends. Loved those ciggies.

Gorgeous old pics, Jude. I also lived out in the sticks (between Chinchilla & Charleville) around that time, & we used to holiday at Redcliffe.

What lovely memories....I have some old family photos which I scanned. My oldest one is of my maternal great grandparents - really old photo (I'm 64). I treasure it as the only one available in our family.

Lovely to have the old family photos Grace, I am blessed to have inherited a box full of old photos, have some of my great-great grandparents even. I'm working on writing a family history so those photos are very special to add.
Thanks Jederick, glad you enjoy them, thanks for looking.

Hey Earl, did you get that massive storm yesterday? I heard the roof of the Maclean pub got blown off!

Yes, Jude, it was a freak mini tornado. I lost my back fence & a garden shed but otherwise okay. Several houses (& a pub) were un-roofed & there are trees blown over everywhere. It was the worst storm I've ever been in. Earl.

Oh no...at least your house is ok. My family are camping at Nymboida near Grafton...no phone reception. Hope they fared ok as there was a line of storms all the way down.
What fond memories these photos must have for you. You presented them very well.
Nice--interesting memories there.

40 years from now will our kids and grand kids be dusting off our old hard drives and finding digital treasures of days past? Hopefully, we are all making some prints as those pixels on today's hard drives may not work in 40 years like an old negative. My motto is if you don't print it, it does not exist. Ahhh memories....
