There are times here that I will open pic and my head snaps back. Give me some room. There are times that pictures can be too much "in your face". Sometimes you need space to breath... so to speak. We can crop so close that you can feel its breath on your face.
That's not completely the case here though.

No.1. The negative space in front of the bird allows you to imagine what the bird is getting ready to pounce on.

#1 has an air of anticipation which draws you into the picture that is missing in #2. If you want to pull the viewer in, definitely #1.

i've come into this topic a bit late - but first off I love the pic, The bird needs all the space you gave it in 1. I think I would have ginen even more room in front of the bird - so no. 2 is a true no.2 for me.

they are both the same just one is zoomed in the 2nd is better because you can see more of the eye
