I read about the Sony FE 100-400mm lens. It appears to be an awesome lens for both wildlife and sports photography. Do you intend to get the FE 1.4X teleconverter for it?

It is an awesome lens. I'll be interested in CO's response - I've considered the teleconverter, but so far haven't seen the need - my a7rii can go into APS-C mode, which gives me 600mm at 18 mp (vs 42 mp in FF mode); the 1.4x could take that up to 840 of course, but the lens is tack sharp so images that need it crop very well.

This afternoon UPS (on a Saturday no less) delivered a Sony A7RIII to my doorstep. I told my wife that is was a product of extreme GAS... and that it was something I really needed but couldn't explain when pressed for details. I'm still waiting for the 24-70mm f4 Sony/Zeiss that will be its main lens so I had to put on a 55mm f1.8 Sony/Zeiss that I had laying around in the interim. I'm not going to give up my D810, DF, or D500's and lenses anytime soon, however, the little Sony is very advanced camera.

I have some pro friends that did sell their DSLR after they saw and experienced the Mirrorless functionality. I'm willing to bet the Sony will be able to damn close to everything the 810 can.

00, welcome to the Hog!
I heard the Brown Truck that does your route burst into flames that day. Luckily, it was AFTER it delivered your GAS medicine!!! LoL
The driver was fine but all the other cameras on the truck burned up!!!
SS

I guess UPS is overdue for a fire sale.

I'm sorry for the mix up. I thought that since the OP had just purchased the Sony that the Sony 100-400mm would be a great next lens. I've read a review about it and it's supposed to be a stellar lens.

Cost fro all GAS items is $250.00 or less. that is if I don't want to sleep in the doghouse. Remember that loose lips sinks ships..... Good luck and enjoy.

I would be interested in knowing, six months from now, if you still use the Nikon gear. If you need a lens wider than the 24-70mm, I recommend the Zeiss 18mm f/2.8.

Jim Bob - The eye autofocus feature on the A7RIII is amazing... Spike's (the dog) right eye was the focus point and the depth of field was very narrow... looking at his eye is like looking at his inner sole... he's a great dog.

Congratulations. It should be fun. I'd like to see some comparison shots with your other cameras. The Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens is in order next. It will be awesome for sports and wildlife shots. The brown truck arrived to my house just days ago. It delivered a Paul C. Buff DigiBee DB-800 studio strobe.

I agree with your assessment of the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. Its likely one of the few larger lenses I would consider for the A7. I have the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G that I use on a D500 and D810 that I really enjoy... the focal length works for most ops (although sometimes you never have enough length) and its not as awkward as the longer lenses. Also like your choice of the DigiBee DB-800... big bang for the $$$. I recently did a crude test with a light meter 8' away and the DB-800 (320WS rating) put out more light than a Profoto B1, B2, and Flashpoint Explor 600... of course the Profoto units recharge almost instantly and have HSS.
