If not, when do you think you will? Do you know when?
For example, I read all the time here that people have all these old cameras and like to go out and shoot with them.
I don't have a use for old cameras, only the best I can afford!
I haven't taken the best shot I'm going to take yet, and I'll be damned if it's gonna happen while I'm using some crappy old camera.
When I go out to shoot, I go out to take the BEST pics I can possibly get and treat each one like it's going to be my best ever!
So to that end, I always take out the best equipment I have!!
I certainly don't set out to take crappy pics with a Canon 20D or Nikon D70, just cause it is nostalgic for me and it still works!
So when you take the best pic you will get in your lifetime, what will you prefer to shoot it with??? Or have you already taken your best pic ever?!?! LoL

I hope I haven't taken my best photo ever yet, but I will probably never know.
Sometimes when I come back from shooting I look at them on the computer and think, "What a load of crap." Every once and a while I see one and think it came out really good.
I take pictures for my own enjoyment, not for profit. When people ask if they can buy a picture from me, I just give them a copy. Knowing that someone likes one of my photos enough that they would be willing to give me money for it is payment enough for me.
I don't know if my Df has degenerated in to the "crappy old camera" category yet, but if I haven't taken my best picture ever by now, it will probably be taken by that camera. It is the one I use the most. Since buying the Df I haven't had camera G.A.S. I am very happy with it. Though lens G.A.S. is still a problem for me.

Seems to me (not being argumentative) but when you do take the best picture in your life........it will be with the equipment you took it with. Just saying.
Not sure it matters when and with what you will use. Others will judge better than we can judge our own. Until then - carry on.
I believe that I have. My late daughter, Cathy, was hapa (half Asian/half Caucasian). As an elfin-faced child of about eight, she dressed for Halloween with cute, pointed ears I had made. I photographed her face in profile with lucky, perfect lighting. The result was wonderful.
Twenty years ago, Cathy died at 21, a lovely and bright young lady. I have never gotten over losing her. To my never-ending grief, somehow I lost the negative and prints of that, my best photo.
The next time I go on a photo shoot!

How will you know when it is the best one you've ever taken? When you quit breathing?
For me as a photographer I'm never looking to take the best photograph of my life, as i might never know if it will ever happen. I photograph such a wide range subjects, flowers, landscapes, seascapes, air shows, Hot air balloons, fire works and outdoor events and outdoor weddings, pets and birds. I look at what i have photographed and ask my self, how could I improve on that photo and go from their. I have a few photos that have taken and can say, this is a perfect photograph. every thing came together and I was able to capture a special moment.
I hope not, but one thing I've reaffirmed. I have found a good camera helps, but some planning, positioning, a little education is more important.
You should know that you don't need a top-end camera to take a great photo. You may take a technically OK photo, but the great part comes from the photographer's eye and creativity.

As you can see, so many can’t wrap their mind around that fact.
It seems you are saying old equipment wouldn’t take great images if you also own something newer.
What is the point of saying something like this?
If I have taken my best image I may not have drive to keep going and try to improve. I may think "what is the point, I am already there".
