Because God made a beautiful world and I need to record and share the beauty I see.

Aside from doing it commercially or for some $ gigs! What does this hobby do for you?

I take pictures of family, seasonal changes, and vacations. Surely not for any thought of making a living at selling pictures.

I mostly take photos of people during special occasions like presentations or performances and give away copies to the individuals. I know where I am that most really appreciate them and would not have records of the events without it. Many are sent to the local paper when we present scholarship to local high school students. Other than that, it is just fun!

I retired and kept all of my equipment and even added a new lens last year. I shoot for the grandkids now mostly and just a few birds, flowers now and then for me. When we go on vacation, after I process in LR, I load the images into Photos and get those photo books from Apple. I figured that I have all this expensive equipment and I might as well use it. I just cannot accept an iPhone quality image, even though they are good and becoming the norm, because I know that I can do much better. I would definitely miss the experience if I did not have the photography hobby. Just wish that I had enough income I could get a Sigma 135mm f/1.4 Art lens.....if Santa is listening...... By the way, at my granddaughter's Christmas program last night, I was shooting video with my D750 along side a couple of folks with the larger iPhones (6,7, or 8). I was envious of their larger viewing screens and the brightness of the screen they were looking at. They must've had the latest model with IS because the video looked really stable.

I really like it. Very much. The hardware is really cool and taking BETTER photos is always a challenge. I love the move to digital as it is much easier - instant results. But I kind of miss the way it was. For me back in the 70s. Loading the film. The developing tank, trays and chemicals. That old Omega B8 enlarger. The GOOD OLD DAYS. But the main reason is memories. That instant is gone but now not lost. Got in memory card (film). And then we can share those moments with others.

I find learning about the complexities of the camera itself fascinating. It's like post graduate school. Secondly,
I love being able to take the memories of beautiful places I have been to ask with me in picture form. It's extremely
enjoyable and so much to keep learning about in terms of how to take a good photo and how to use complicated
cameras and good lenses.

I really love the improved quality of digital images now. I go back to the film days and shooting high school sports for the local papers with asa 800 speed film. Boy was that stuff grainy!! So now, I never complain about noise in an image because I remember where I came from. Late one afternoon, I had a football assignment and went to the drawer to get a roll of 800 film, but all we had left was 200. You can imagine the nightmare from asa 200 at a night ball game. But the editor managed to get at least one good image to publish--a close-up on the sideline.... So my enjoyment of photography now is truly enhanced with digital. But I do miss the days of developing my own film in the darkroom (nah, I don't, now that I had 5 secs to think about it again)

I am an incurable collector of beautiful things. If I have a camera along I can take beautiful things home with me and they don't clutter up my house! Isn't that at the bottom of most photography--the urge to seize the moment and the scene?

Because I am a Hunter and a Hunter Gatherer,,, Thousands of Years ago I might have been in Animal Skins with a Wooden Spear and a Flint Blade hunting Mammoths,,,,today I have mostly switched from a Rifle or Compound Bow to a Camera,,,,today I can Hunt all Day Long,,, be almost perfectly quiet,,,,almost like a Ghost in the Woods,,,leave little impact on the Environment and Shoot all Kinds of Animals and People and Landscapes without Hurting or Damaging Anything while Capturing the Beauty of Nature and this World,,,,a Thousand Years from now Who knows what a Future Hunter and Photographer will be using for Equipment and what part of the Magnificent Universe they will be Shooting in....
