Perhaps because I have over half a TB of images. They had to come from somewhere.

Why do I do it? Because I like images and creating images. Does one need another reason?

Why do people ask questions of this type? For what purpose?

Because I capture reality, and turn it into something unique.

I don't take photos, photography takes me to places I'd never go if I didn't have a camera. I crawl through creekbeds, wander out in the ocean on a jetty, visit parks and memorial, and celebrate the Red, White, and Blue in ways I never would without a camera.

Several reasons, but I take pictures as a challenge to myself. Can I make an image that touches my soul as well as someone else's. I can share with the world some of the things I have seen. Can I conquer the electronics and computers enough to make an image worth looking at? Can I tell a story that some would never know if I hadn't captured the moment?

I guess mainly because you wouldn't.

It was a technical challenge that has slowed down abit.

It is faster than sketching!
Stops me watching TV or reading three books a week!

Yes it certainly makes you look at what you're shooting.. As an artist, I paint and get to become that which I am looking into.

Aside from doing it commercially or for some $ gigs! What does this hobby do for you?

Memories and more memories. Pictures to give the kids when they're grown up to remember the things we did. Pictures of special vacations and special occasions. I'm now even beginning to appreciate all of the video I've taken over the years, though I've never had time to edit it. Others might do photography for "art." That's secondary to me. If I take the picture of a lifetime, good for me, but the memories are what really give everything meaning.

from my website...

I caught the photography bug while learning to photograph ski racing....and have been a consumer of all things photography since then. Combining my love of both tech, art, and sports, photography was bound to draw me in ....

I take pictures mostly to remember people and places, to remember times in my life, for the memories.

For myself, I became involved in photography because I loved the outdoors and its beauty and I wanted to bring it home with me. Just like any hobby, it's a part of something else. I love to fish, so I started making fishing rods. I love the outdoors so I learned to raise indoor plants. I love the oceans, lakes and streams so I have two aquariums in my home. I could go on but I think I made my point.
