Kuzano, Wow, I am glad that I read your post because I always run a USB cable from my D750 to the computer to transfer my images. I use the cable that came in the box with the camera. I guess I really should take the SD card from the camera and insert it into the computer card reader and proceed from there. ~FiddleMaker

It's complete BS. There is nothing wrong with using the USB cable.

Well I must admit that I have never had a problem with a cable from camera to computer. However, I did have one of the sales associates at the camera store tell me that I would be better off getting a stand-alone card reader and transferring my images from an external card reader to the computer. I was told that I need a fully charged (or nearly fully charged) camera battery if transferring images from camera via a cable to the computer. A nearly dead camera battery will cause all sorts of problems if transferring images directly from camera to computer via USB cable.

The only disadvantage to using the USB cable to download images is that it uses the battery power of the camera. It has no connection to the card slot and cannot damage the card slot.

Well, you need enough of a charge to finish the transfer - since it is read only, no harm done if it powers down in the middle.
I do pull sd cards when I am at my desktop as it has an SD card reader. However, I have not got an XQD card readers, so those I pull of with USB.
No camera I have would need a nearly charged battery to transfer the files.
That said I have messed up and left the camera on and discharged the battery.
It's not horrible advice, How much did he want for the card reader :-)

I called Nikon today; they said to send it in! At least the warranty is good until next month!
