I pulled the SD card out of my D500 to view the images. When I put it back in I started receiving an error and it was flashing "card" on the display. I removed the SD card and everything worked fine with just the XQD card installed. I tried other SD cards and get the same error. All of those cards work fine in my D750. I tried to format the card again, but it said it cannot access this card; I was able to format it on my D750. I even did a reset on the camera, but still get the same problem. I checked the slot to see if there was any debris, but it looked very clean; I've only had it for about a month. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Warranty repair time. One of the internal contact if bad. You have eliminated all other possibilities.
It happens, tough luck.
What did Nikon service center say?
I would also remove the battery and reinstall.
Do you connect your camera direct to the computer with a USB cable ever? A definite no no in my book. Possible (remotely so) to blow out card slot that way.
To the factory, it go should, yes!

No, I've never connected it directly to the computer; I always remove the cards to read them!
If you format it to your D750 cam..it will recognize only the D750. Will the card format in your D500? If not...it's a card eschew. Try a new card. Hope this is helpful.
You may be hard pressing the SD card in the slot, and ruptured the contacts in the slot. Bent pins are also common with Compact Flash Memory Cards. You may need to send it in for repair. Bad news, because the D500 is an awesome camera.

That is just not true. To verify, I just pulled the SD card from my D750 that already had three JPG's. Put it in a D500 and fired one shot. Then to the USB slot on a PC. All 4 shots are there in a single directory.
What ever... I hope your ideal works for him.

I believe he has already ruled out a "card eschew".

I also have used cards from one camera to another w/o problems and they were not of the same camera brand either. The captures are just placed in different directories.
For info cards are all formatted using the same file system that is complaint with not only all cameras but also all card readers.
