Just use the map feature, have it set for North up,and figure out yourself where you want to go. I greatly enjoy my GPS,but I don't ask it questions.
Just set the thing on map only with North up and figure where you want to go. I greatly love my GPS,but I never ask it questions,or at least not for several years. Advise only slightly better than asking a person for directions,a guaranteed way to go wrong.
This is one of those cars where you see the difference between a dumb machine and your expectations. I have a Garmin GPS on my motorbike and set the avoidances to "avoid highways". Of course, there are times when I know I want to take the 20 miles of highway rather than 100 miles of route that would otherwise be required, but it isn't until I am at least halfway along my chosen highway route that it finally gives up telling me to make a U-turn - it is merely, and with infinite patience, following the dictate to avoid the highway.
Your only option is to turn off the "avoid tolls" avoidance when you are fully aware that you will be using the toll road.

We really like our drive assist 50, move it to the car we are using that day
It's because of your glowing review that I bought one.
I will say, though, that although it processes much faster, it isn't as accurate with time, mileage, and the best route as my older Nuvi. With the same maps, I'd expect both of them to pick the same route. The Nuvi usually picks the faster route.

I have an old TomTom unit, which works pretty well - most of the time... One time, I was going to visit a friend, and when I entered his address, it kept warning me that he was on an unpaved road, and did I really want to go there, or pick an alternative?!?! Even better, when I switched the machine on after leaving his house, it came up with the same warning! I was already *on* the unpaved road, so how on Earth is it going to give me an alternative??
Used this unit when driving a bus for the YMCA daycare camp over the summer, heading to some place I had never been. It got close, then directed me into a parking lot. While I was driving around looking, it reset and started telling me that I was about 40 miles from the destination... Once I got back out onto the road, it figured itself out, and we were only a couple of blocks away. Strange...
These machines are very clever, most of the time, but it doesn't pay to always believe them!

I'll call tomorrow and see what they say. I called once before, and they got me straightened out.
Before you call make sure you plugged in the correct address and town. I’ve made that mistake before with my Garmins and my Waze. Waze knows the ways.
Since I found Waze, which also tells you about police & red light & speed cameras, my Garmin has been sitting in my trunk.
And Garmin is one of the leading manufacturers of aviation guidance equipment.

This is disappointing. I have a Garmin DriveAssist 50, a great GPS. Unfortunately, it caused me a lot of trouble yesterday. I was wanted to drive from one town to another, about 25 miles to the south - with no tolls. I had driven this route twice before, so I had a general idea how to get there. The GPS said it would take 2 1/2 hours. It wanted me to drive north to Albany and get on the Thruway (toll road) and then drive south. The GPS was set to "Avoid Tolls." I head south and hoped the GPS would find its mistake and get the correct directions. No such luck.
It kept giving me directions to turn around and head north. I turned it on and off, and canceled the route and reentered, but it kept wanting to go north. The strange thing is that it would show the distance to to the town as 17 miles, but the driving time as two hours - with that trip north. Fortunately, I had another GPS with me, and that got me there on time. It wasn't till I was about two miles from the town that the newer GPS figured it out and gave me the right directions.
I'm not expecting any of you to have a solution, but I hate to think this could happen again. I'll contact Garmin and let you know if they have an solution.

Garmin has issues. I have been notifying them of two mislabeled streets in my hometown for 4 years and there is still no update on the latest set of maps.
Trouble is,satnav is causing us to lose the ability to read maps.I use it and my Garmin has never let me down.
Downloaded one on my phone for free and works fine no more Garmin necessary

Right! I once entered 125 instead of 145 and got messed up.
For this trip, I just selected a destination I had used before, but this time it wanted to go north and then south.

Yes, after fifty years of driving, I'm still waiting for that accident. GPS #1 got lost, but GPS #2 got me there.
I'll call Garmin today and see what they say. Stay tuned!

I now use TracFone, and I pay for data, so that's out.
