Mostly natural. Golden hour strip of light.
Only question is how the right side of the little girls face is fully exposed and not shadowed in anyway. If you check the angle of the light strip...and the fact that she is largely backlit, her face should be shadowed unless there is a reflector in play that was removed using a 2 shot setup on a tripod. (Shoot with the girls and reflector and then shoot without. Overlay both and remove the relfector and stray light you dont want replacing with the background from the 2nd shot.)

Good post processing.

no flash just a carefully chosen spot with a sun beam through the trees and an assistant blowing bubbles up wind. Easy but carefully thought out to choose the right background

I like your response. Also, there is no sun reflection in the umbrella, I guess you could use polarizing filter for that. But I would also expect some sort of rim light in the little girl's hair.

Looking at the photo again, I guess there is some reflection in the umbrella, but if the reflection is there, then the two girls (especially their faces) should not be so evenly lit, especially the little girl with her back to the sun.

Let's all admit it, Jackie Jean is an incredible photographer!

It was probably mid afternoon with the kids just in the shade of the trees with all the rest of the area that is in the sun brightening the girls. I've done this many times.
