You may want a monitor rather than using the screen on the Inspirion, the screen angle can effect the colors that you see. When doing photo editing I always plug my Inspirion into my monitor

Unfortunately, I don't have room for a monitor. I normally live on a boat, which was nearly destroyed by Irma, and am currently renting a room while it's being repaired. That's the main reason I'm concerned about having a decent display.

I got a large Vostro 1500 laptop in 2008, and it still works fine.

In case you weren't aware, Dell has an auction site, and we bought several desktops for a little over $100.

I will check out the auction site...I wasn't aware of that, even after spending a good bit of time on their site!

using one now. Love it. get an i7 processor and no less than 8gb memory. You should be able to get a good deal if you hunt. Office MAX/Depot often has a sweet deal on these. Never an issue doing camera work, Again i7 processor and no less than 8gb memory.

The units I'm eyeing are either 16 or 32gb. Costco has a great deal on a few models, one is an Inspiron 15-5000 with and i-7 8th gen and 32gb but they have skipped the SSD in favor of 1 or 2tb (5400 rpm) spinning drives. Another is an Inspiron 15-7000 i7-7700 with 16gb, 128gb SSD and 1tb HD. All at $999. I guess I could add an SSD later....

Got one for my wife and she hates it. It is flaky on getting her email and they seem to want to force Mcafee on everyone.

I'm replying on an Inspiron 15 5000 Series (with a Core i5 processor) and it works just fine. No complaints at all (other than the space bar sometimes ignores me and other times puts in two spaces even though I hit it once).

I've been using a Dell XPS-15 laptop for about a year now. It has a higher resolution display than what you're looking at. It comes with 4k resolution while yours would have HD resolution. I can't speak for the Inspirion from experience but I can say that Dell's customer support is great. My machine had a problem with the main board. It was a power supply problem. I shipped it in and they replaced the main board no questions asked. Later I had a problem with a driver update. The tech spent a couple of hours with me over 2 or 3 different days and eventually fixed the problems. Since then it's been great. No issues.

I agree with the post above about the I5 vs I7. If you can at all afford it get the better processor. Some things it's just not worth it to cheap out on. You'll probably regret it as long as you have it if you don't spend the few extra dollars on an up to date processor.

I have used those laptops. They're fine. Remember they have multiple models though, and you need at least 8G live memory for reasonable speed in post processing.

I was surprised when I got my Dell Inspiron 1520. It replaced my old Sony which was great. The Sony spent most of its dormant life on the cab floor of my construction truck and took the beating and kept on ticking. Well so far, the Dell has done the same. Life is not easy for a laptop that has to deal with a contractor, and it doesn't even have the minimal memory to run Win 7 64 bit, but can still do 3d cad and process photo's. Maybe some day I'll get a memory upgrade.

We have 2 Inspiron laptops with the I7 & 8G Ram they are a few years old now...we bought at Costco and their Concierge service is WONDERFUL! We had a problem with my wife's laptop that Dell gave up on fixing & was giving us the runaround! Costco has a private direct line & stayed on the line with us for hours until Dell was forced to give her a new whole replacement Laptop! Costco sells a LOT of Dells & they have pull getting Dell's attention. I highly recommend them for all electronic purchases if possible...it is free too!

Both our Dell Laptops have one annoying habit that may or may not still exist...if you leave your cursor in any position on the document you are writing and happen to pause a few seconds to think or compose a thought IT STARTS TYPING OVER WHERE YOU LEFT THE ARROW CURSOR!!!! I am not talking about the flashing one here on UHH....just the arrow cursor you move around with your touchpad. It happens on all sites & all writing programs I have found. Most annoying to look up to a paragraph of garbled overwritten out of sequence nonsense! They have never fixed that for us and even her replacement still does it. I got to talk directly with the design engineer & the Costco Concierge in a conference call for the Inspiron 5000 & he said it doesn't do that but all 3 I have owned do! Defintely check on that! Type a few sentences then let the arrow cursor sit for 30 seconds or so & then start typing & see where it comes out. Other than that I love the Dell Inspiron....I grade Dell Support a D+ with Costco's help....and an F with out it.

I've been shopping for a new laptop which will be used for photo and video editing as well as business use. A deal has popped up on an Inspiron 15 7000 that fits my desired specs and budget. I'm not familiar with their displays, hence my question. The one on this unit is described as: 15.6" IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit FHD (1920 x 1080) Display.

I almost jumped on a deal for a Lenovo Legion gaming machine, but reviews seem to consistently pan the display on that one.....

Also, if anyone has purchased something similar to the specs below and are happy/not happy, let me know!

Core i7-7700 or i7-8550
15.6" screen size
Nvidia 1050 or 1060 graphics
SSD primary and HDD storage

Thanks in advance,

-Ed

I believe that the INSERT key will toggle you out of the over-writing problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron I7, 13.4 in screen, only 256gb SSD with 8gb RAM. I do not use it for a lot of post processing, but it has made three trips with me to Mexico and one to Death Valley. I have done some minor PP with it.

On the basis of my experience with this laptop, I purchased a much more advanced Dell desktop that I love. Dell has gone from cobbling together standard parts from any vendor to doing some really advanced engineering of their own.
