I've been shopping for a new laptop which will be used for photo and video editing as well as business use. A deal has popped up on an Inspiron 15 7000 that fits my desired specs and budget. I'm not familiar with their displays, hence my question. The one on this unit is described as: 15.6" IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit FHD (1920 x 1080) Display.

I almost jumped on a deal for a Lenovo Legion gaming machine, but reviews seem to consistently pan the display on that one.....

Also, if anyone has purchased something similar to the specs below and are happy/not happy, let me know!

Core i7-7700 or i7-8550
15.6" screen size
Nvidia 1050 or 1060 graphics
SSD primary and HDD storage

Thanks in advance,

-Ed

I have a Dell Alienware and I am pleased with the laptop performance and display. That said, I was happier with the customer service by HP. When I replace this unit in a few years I will go back to HP for the customer service.

Dell Inspiron's are a great compromise between business and home use. Their displays are great, they stand behind their warranty. My current laptop is a Dell XPS-15, but I've had Inspirons for many years. Cram as much RAM as you can into your system. This is more important than storage capacity or speed of access.

Agreed! I'd go with at least 8GB RAM. Makes handling photos much faster. We've had a series of Dell Inspirons over the last 15 years, or so. As with all other electronics, the cheaper versions lack the quality of the more expensive versions. The Alienware versions, I believe, are part of the higher end of the Dell lineup.

Some of the cheaper Inspirons seem like "throwaways", lacking the build quality of higher end models, meaning as soon as things stop working well, just get another one.

Stay away from the botom of the line. Looks like your potential choice looks good.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. I am very happy with it. It came with 8 GB of ram. I do intend to upgrade ram to 16 GB. It is an I7 7th gen 7500. 256 SSD. I have a 2 GB external for storage. Your example has a better processor and upgraded screen with graphics card. You did not list a cost to purchase. I paid $600.00 at Staples for it. I was being price conscious. It lets me edit my photos with no problem. I did however buy it as an at home work laptop. I am a field tech and work out of my home repairing computer equipment. I have been very impressed with the Dells I have dealt with and Dell support.

I got a large Vostro 1500 laptop in 2008, and it still works fine.

In case you weren't aware, Dell has an auction site, and we bought several desktops for a little over $100.

using one now. Love it. get an i7 processor and no less than 8gb memory. You should be able to get a good deal if you hunt. Office MAX/Depot often has a sweet deal on these. Never an issue doing camera work, Again i7 processor and no less than 8gb memory.

I have a Dell Latitude E7470 with the 6th generation I7, 16GB of RAM, 512GB M2 drive. I don't know how much it cost but it must be more than $1000 and it has blue screen often.

I bought the Dell Inspiron 17.3 inch screen, 2 in 1 TOUCH model with the i7 and 16 GB of memory. I added both a Crucial M.2 1TB main SSD and a 4TB Samsung 2.5 inch SSD. It is now a year old and is my 3rd Dell "refurbished" unit. Treat them nice and they last. Only draw back is they have no BluRay/DVD or CD drives but I got a portable.

I have an Inspiron and like it. However I would stay away from the i7 processor. I have the 7th gen i7 and it does not perform photo processing tasks as well as the i5. I am not a tech guy at all but I have been told the reason is the i5 is better at handling multiple tasks at the same time. My Lenovo t43 thinkpad with an i5 which is more than 6 years old is quicker. Stick with the i5 and you will be happy with the Inspiron.

I had a Dell xps-15 until the graphics card went and I purchased a MacPro. I forgot what it was called, but I had a good screen on the xps-15 and it was better than the MacPro is. You may want to upgrade your screen on your Inspirion. I think you'll find it worth the extra that you'll pay. I was happy with Dell. My son recommended the Mac, and I BootStrap Windows 10. Next computer I'll go back to a Dell. Nothing against the Mac, though.

Note: I use BitDefender Total Security and it keeps my computer running flawlessly. I've never had a problem since switching from McAfee, another Adobe product.

You may want a monitor rather than using the screen on the Inspirion, the screen angle can effect the colors that you see. When doing photo editing I always plug my Inspirion into my monitor

I have the Dell Insperon 13 with the I7 chip 8 G of memory and a 256 G SSD. I really like this 2 in 1. My only problem with it is battery life between charges. I like that it has 3 USB 3 ports (only one will charge external devices) and a SD card reader. It fits in my camera bag and only weighs 3.3 lbs. When away from home, I use an external 256 G jump drive to download my raw files so I don't fill up the SSD with photos. All my PP programs work well. One of the things my version has that I really like is the built-in stylus so my screen remains clean. For some reason Dell discontinued the stylus on later Insperon 13s.

Do you happen to know which i7? They're not all quad core. I'm only looking at units sporting the i7-7700. I will google a bit about the i5 vs i7....thank you for that input.

I have a Dell XPS 13 that I use for travel. It was the largest screen that would fit in my camera bag. I don't do any serious PP on it, more because of my eyesight than anything else; I do it at home where I have a 27" monitor. The laptop works great for the limited use I make of it. The screen is one of their borderless ones. Its images are great. It seems to be hardy. I have dropped it once. The impact was enough to dent the metal case. That was over a year ago and the machine continues to function flawlessly.
