I thought it was Yos-mite, as in Yos-mite Sam. It didn't make sense to me but I was a kid, what did I know?

As a "foreign kid" I can totally relate to that. I run into a faux-pas similar to this more often than I'd like to. But how can you possibly know every existing exception in other languages?
