I posted this in black and white, but the color version of this one keeps grabbing me. Which do you prefer?

An interesting image to analyze.

It is a multi-layered composition. The lady sitting on the left is the foreground layer. It is perhaps slightly unusual in that this is a very strong layer compared to the other two layers where more often a foreground layer merely provides only location, balance, or even just a distraction. The people walking are the middle layer. And the building against the sky in the distance is the background layer.

It is the intangible relationships between the tangible objects of each distinct layer that make great Street in an image like this

In the BW version only the perception of distance separates the middle and background layers. The converging lines and decreasing size helps that, but there is little assist in any other way. For example contrast is only slightly helpful between the middle and backgroud layers.

The BW version does accomplish what is needed and makes a good image.

The color version adds another element of complexity by providing very distinct contrast between the layers. The converging lines of the alleyway are much stronger as is the separation of the background layer.

I like the BW version, but am more attracted by the color version. Either version is just excellent Street.

Black an white was the version I saw first. I think I like it better in B&W. But then, I'm very partial to Black and white.

Because the colour is more or less monotone and not vivid, it does not act as a distraction, otherwise I am with Apaflo on this. Any idea what the balloon is for, was it her birthday?
