Here is a trick I use. First, find out the ratio of the sensor you are using. Most DSLR's crop and full frame are 3 by 2 or for you landscape fans 2 x 3.
If you want to keep that ratio, then multiply the two number by the number you want to enlarge it by.
For example.
2x3
2x enlargement 4x6
4x enlargement 8x12
8x enlargement 16x24

You will notice that they don't make papers in all of these sizes so the paper would have to be trimmed. If you are doing custom framing, it doesn't matter. You can enlarge a picture non proportionally without distortion.

I just bought some 13 x 19 paper. I'll have to trim it if I want to keep my proportional scale. Same is with 8x10 paper. No problem with 4x6 paper.

I assume that is your daughter. I hope both both of you can always smile
like that in each others company.

PSE 10 allows you to crop all kinds of ways, including standard sizes. Watch this.

It hard to do with out the original. My try 5x7. You can find how to in youtube.com and adobeTV.com and also in you PSE10 help drop down manu.
Open the original in PSE10 play with enhance, til you get it the way you like.
Then go to file, new, blank file, use inchs, the size you want.
Put you finder on shift an drag you photo on the blank, move it till its the size of the blank. Hit the check mark let the check mark, then let go of the shift key. Thats it. Play around with doing this you can get what you want. It take practice and more of it. Good luck.

Sensors, sensors, sensors. In most digital cameras we find
two sensor sizes; there are others. A full size sensor fills up
somewhat larger than most. The smaller sensor, according
to many, crops what you would see in the full size sensor. The word "crop" crops up too frequently when photographers
try to compare a full size sensor and a smaller sensor. The
sensor on all cameras take a picture according to its size.
So let's crop "crop" from the language. Were you to print
your own photos, you can use your printer to accommodate
umpteenine frame sizes. If you don't print, ask the photo
finisher for the size you want.

Bad advice. Unless you're dealing with a pro shop, cropping is automatic and takes off equal amounts from either the top and bottom or the sides to fit the requested paper size. The only way you can be sure of the result is to crop yourself to the size you intend to print.

Hey gang
I asked this a few days ago and tried all of the responses but I can't figure it out. All of my pictures are cropped to shreds. Is there a way to make, for example this picture, into a 4x6 or 5x7 in PSE10?

Thanks again- the more I learn the worse I get. I think my photos turned out better when I used to just take pictures, get them developed and be done with it

Definitely identify with that. It seems my picture were much better before I began to try

There are indeed. Often such things pop up when I'm watching a Photoshop video so I give it a try in Elements and sure nuff it usually works the same.

One of the other ones I struggled with for some months was making the sky blue. I found the brush thingee but it didn't work so well for me. I just recently found the tool that shows up on the left only when you are in the quick edit mode. I hope to now remember where to find that one.

I have given up trying to understand the logic of where they put stuff beteen the top menus (including a godawful array of filters and stuff on the Enhance menu), tabs on the right, and tools (including the separate toolbar that appears for the quick edit menu, mentioned above). They also seem to have about sixteeen different ways to do essentially the same thing, only slightly different (e.g. sharpen in Organizer, ACR, or Editor using Unsharp mask, Sharpen dialog, or sharpen tool and probably others). I can't help feeling the sofware design (I use that work loosley) is done by some kind of burrowing insect colony.

That said it is fabulous software with incredible capabilities for a mere $50 on sale.

If your going to print it just set the picture size you want in your printer setup.

Well, determination is a tough character to deal with! You do have the abilities to be a pro if you keep at doing what you are doing now!!. You ask the right questions and your photo here is just beautiful. I love to edit and my obsession begins and ends there. I never really understood the pixel thing on my 2 cannons. I took classes but we didn't adjust the size photos and consequently none of my 27 thous. photos are presentable for contests, nor commercially correct. Oh well,I'll have to get my little head into my cannon manuals. So,sometimes painful lessons drive you to improvement and that's what I need to do to enjoy this hobby of mine!! You need to inspire me because I have not taken any photos since my granddaughter's First Communion. I need to just go and do it!! Her's a few of Liv and fly.Send me more of your pretty ones. Your little model is as cute as a button. My little grand daughter is going on 9. She's a bit tiny but I spoil that baby every chance I get. She's such a well behaved, smart, artistic. and precious to me!!

OK, Another version in CS2. No border, you can put whatever you want on it. This is only cropping example.

Whatever you did in the first shot, you ruined the resolution. I wouldn't print that personally.

Interesting treatment with these. The first one should be ok to print up to 5x7, maybe 8x10 depending on the actual size of your original file. the others are not too good for printing, but the 3rd one is definitely an interesting effect.

Can't understand your desire to print it, surly the child doesn't look like that. I think it is a bit of diservice to the child.
