Ok, how about the Christians in Ethiopia? They do their share of killing "heathens."

And no, the Holy Trinity is not the same as a Chevy Bel Air versus Chevy Impala versus Chevy Biscayne. Phew, what a stretch! Gee, that makes God the Father be the Bel Air and subservient to the Impala! Not sure he likes that.

And something I saw lately, saying you're a Christian because you go to church is like saying you're a car because you're standing in a garage.
That's right Fred, you tell em. Christians, especially Catholics were always known for chopping off heads and terrorizing people. I think these stupid comments belong in the attic.

Helpful tip - please 'Quote Reply' when responding to specific posts so we can see who you are responding to ! I assume with the car reference, you are responding to my post so wanted to address your comment.

My car analogy was only to parallel people who say that the only difference between religions is God's 'name' . I was just trying to point out that you can't pick and choose pieces of two comparative religions and come to the conclusion that they are the same. You have to include all the attributes ascribed to their concept of God. I also am not looking to evaluate the human actions of those called followers since it does not always (almost never) reflect the teaching and dogma of a religion. We humans stink at consistently acting according to our beliefs and will often look for something to justify us when we know we are doing wrong.

Not to try to correct you but according to Jesus, there IS an actual hierarchy in the trinity ! Whichever vehicle you see as the non-subservient would be the representation of the Father. The relationship is part of the trinity (and what makes it so hard to understand: one God, three persons, authoritative structure).

Christianity is the only religion that recognizes we can't earn our way to favor with God because we are so far from perfection that without an intercessor, we have no standing with God. In every other major religion, there are things that must be done to gain favor from their god. That does not mean that as failed/fallen humans we don't automatically try to garner more favor by doing what we think God wants. We do - its 'human nature' ! But when we understand that we have no way to gain favor in God's eyes it often stops the atrocities done in His name.

I hope you are not implying that I defend so called 'christian atrocities' or that human failure indicates a contradiction to the truth. The teachings of the Christian Church does NOT support the actions. Comparing Christianity and its holy scriptures cannot be equated to Islam and its violent teachings presented in the Koran. If you have read the Koran, you know that Islam's holy book specifically states that it is their duty to kill infidels (unbelievers). Specifically and in so many words !

I do not allow my relationship with God be influenced by denominational administrative types who tell me what scripture 'really means' (want mom to go to heaven ? $20 will take care of it for you ...). The only thing to interpret scripture is scripture, not some governing body.

Thank you Mary Kate I remember Kate Smith and that song from when I was a Kid. She had her own TV show a long time ago and she was great. You posting her singing God Bless America has made my day
AFAIC, no one sang "God Bless America" as well as Kate Smith did. She not only "pwned" that song, she actually "owned" it--the composer actually gave it to her. She, in turn, set it up for all royalties from it to be given to the Boy Scouts of America. (So I have been told.)

Most people do not know the verse of the song, as usually only the chorus is sung. (I cry when I hear it.)

Just remember that religion (of any kind) has caused more deaths in the history of the world than anything else.

The same as I feel about the Catholics during the Spanish Inquisition who did the same thing. Fanaticism run amok. BTW, there should be a comma after fanatic, not a period. I'm a fanatic about grammar and punctuation. Nobody dies.

Yeah, like bringing up something that happened 540 years ago is relevant. I can't recall a bunch of Catholic nuns flying planes into buildings, killing thousands of people. And what about those fun loving "non religious" folks: The Nazis and Communists?!? --- I'm not religious by any stretch, but I'd be more happy with them than the bunch I mentioned. - Oh, and God Bless.

It is, in fact, religious fanatics like yourself that are the problem. By the way, allah is just the word God in a different language. It is better to say nothing and have people think you're a fool than to speak and prove it!

The last sentence actually applies to you.

Nice try, but you couldn't be more wrong. Secularism has murdered more people than all religions combined ever did. And most of that has occurred in the last 100 years.

Mao & Chinese Comunism - 50-65 MILLION
Hitler - 12 to 15 MILLION human beings
Stalin - 7 to 20 MILLION (or more, some say 30
Million)
Pol Pot - 1.7 MILLION

Throw in another few million for ever other secular Communist/Socialist/Progressive leader and nation and religious wars and deaths, horrific as they are, pale in comparison.
