Why I like Lynda. All videos 4-5 minutes and cataloged for future reference. 4-5 minutes of info is about all this old brain can hold at one time.

It would appear that your brain is much younger than many here.

Just a reminder. The original request was for a book to help him learn PSE 15. How many of you, engaged in this ridiculous debate, think all this verbiage is helpful to him? This seems to happen with many posts and threads. The forum is not about debating and proving someone else wrong. That belongs in the Jr. high grades or court. UHH is neither.
Just my opinion. I may be wrong too.

Thanks for any help - all is appreciated.

I have PSE 14 and use both Scott Kelby's book and the For Dummies book (if I recall correctly there are two versions of Dummies, one more detailed). For me it's a toss up as to which is most useful. One may be better in one area, the other in another area. I'm so photo editing challenged I need all the help I can get.

Regarding the discussion above about learning, the concept that different people learn best in different ways is valid and proven. I learn much better by reading than by watching, whether it's a classroom lecture or a video, versus a book. Different brains work in different ways regarding learning.
I have PSE 14 and use both Scott Kelby's book and ... (show quote)

And to prove your point... I learn faster by watching.

It only got ridiculous when you claimed that computer screens are farther from your face than books.

Every time I update Photoshop Elements I get the Dummies book for that version and Scott Kelby's Photoshop Elements for Photographers for that version. If you have the books with your computer they are easy to follow.

As another new user of PSE 15 -- and after an extensive look-see at the local bookstore -- I chose "The Photoshop Elements 15 Book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby. He offers downloadable photos (on his site) for practicing. It was much cheaper from Barns & Noble's website than at the store and if you jump at the on-screen offer of 15% off your first purchase you do even better. I've only just begun (sounds like a song lyric!) but it has made my use of PSE so much easier and relaxing. Good luck and enjoy!

There is a link that you can hit on.

It will give you the user manual and its pretty good and easy to use.

One note. as you go through the book E edition try to perform the steps as they are being explained.

You will find it easy to follow then.

After all of the much needed advice I have come to the decision that the best way to go is a marriage of the two alternatives. I truly appreciate all of the inputs because each input helped me reach my decision. Again thank all of you for your inputs.

As far as using youtube or other websites to learn, I'm going to suggest something no one else has. When I was learning Lightroom I viewed the tutorials on my ipad while following along on the computer screen. I was able to pause and start the videos as need be. It worked well for me and I'll use the same method this winter when I begin to learn Photoshop Elements 15 which I recently purchased.

Get the Scott Kelby book.

Agreed! I got his book for PSE 12 and it was great. The thing about a book is the index which you can reference at anytime to perform a specific function. I have read Kelby's book on PSE 12 twice, cover to cover while in front of my computer. I'm now working on his Lightroom 6 book.

or read it, I always prided myself in saying "show me once and you'll never have to show me again" I still say it today... that was true with reading years ago. I used to comprehend most of what I read... age has plagued me with having to read something 2 or 3 times before it sinks in, very frustrating.

We're talking about editing photos. You definitely need to see. There is no text that explains how to edit photos.

If you think that, than you obviously don't read/or don't know how!
