The selling price of any product is determined by what the buyer is willing to pay,
not how much you think it's worth. This inconvenient truth is the reason why homeowners
overprice their houses for sale. Then they wonder why the house has remained on the market for a year or more. >Alan

Only the Henpecked!!!!
I have never told either of my wives how much I paid for any of my tools or toys. And I never ask what they spent on theirs.
After I cash in who cares. She doesn't know what I paid for them anyway or won't remember.

That's why my ham radio buddies will be the ones to sell my gear (if we were a 501 c 3 club, I would donate it and take a tax deduction). As far as camera equipment is concerned I would hope that one of my grandchildren, all who are over 21, would be interested in carrying on with my stuff.

Somehow, I avoided the ham radio bug.
My twins will inherit all my photography, audio, and video gear. They’re studying to be actors and filmmakers.

Not entirely true. Because a loss to fire or theft COULD happen before or even after checkout, an inventory of your stuff And family jewelry, antiques, etc. is even more important than the rest of the household stuff. That's because people remember what they cook, sit, sleep on etc.
I just had my photo gear stolen from my car. I didn't have an inventory, but my smallish camera bag had 23 items listed from my memory. My insurer, Farmer's, was very good and the ancillary stuff, including the bag itself essentially covered the $1K deductible. So, there are more reasons to keep an inventory with Serial Numbers as applicable.
And knowing spouses, they already KNOW what ya paid and didn't choose a fight. And whatever ya paid, it was probably WAY cheaper than another woman (so I'm told). Knowing the $ after checkout will just elicit another eye roll, for good times sake!

He with the most toys wins!! There are a lot of toys that cost a lot more than camera stuff. Bu none of them can make photos.
LOL. I live near my son, so he would probably be getting rid of my camera equipment. His wife is my insurance agent, so she knows exactly how much I paid for my D500 and lenses. They just don't know how much I paid for all of the extras that go with it, at least not all of it.

I've been outside all summer putting up my antennas.
This weekend I'm putting up one more. Same as photography and lenses - got to have one more!

Unless it is a search and rescue, or what is known as a bunny hunt, which is direction finding a hidden transmitter.
