I do research before purchasing a car.

I assembled a fairly comprehensive spreadsheet comparing cameras before I purchased my Pentax K-30

You may make ignorant decisions if that is what you want

And you're entitled to may make ignorant responses, if that's what you want.

If your leaning toward Canon, that's a good choice. Get a good camera body with the functions you think you will use, try it out if you can. Remember, A good camera with great lens' is the best combination

There all Good choices , it's impossible to go wrong with any one of them, in the same price range, it is virtually
Impossible to make a bad choice ,just flip a coin and. ; grab any one you come across, but make sure , you don't pick up a $500
Modle of some ones line , and think it's as good as another makers line of $1500 cameras , get a Nikon , or canon, Sony, , if it's only a fifty $ or so in difference on them they will all last and perform the same , .

I have read every response made to my question. I appreciate the serious answers where I was given links or advise on where to do my research and what to consider when making my choice. Now about the girls all dressed up, lets get a look at some of them. 😃

Just one point.... I recommended you study Ken Rockwell for information. There really are many lenses (older and new) you will come across and sometimes the cost is really a great deal. I know of no better reference than the information you will find at kenrockwell.com on almost any lens you would want to see a good technical review on and how it compares to other similar lenses before you spend your money. This goes for Canon or Nikon. Also, you can get very detailed reviews of the most recent cameras and older models... and easily decide if you want to spend $1250 for a new D7300 or maybe $700 for a D7200... Ken also offers good charts like spreadsheets to see the differences in a glance comparing several models. I doubt you will find a better source of "direct experience" in use and a high level of technical knowledge" in figuring how to get the most bang for your buck than referencing Ken Rockwell. Usually, he has bought and used everything he reviews both Canon and Nikon and knows well what he is talking about.... that is what he does for a living.

I have been providing specific information - the opposite of ignorance.

Either will be fine. After researching which cameras have the features you are looking for, decide on the best fit in Canon, Nikon, and any other major camera maker. If you have a local camera shop, rent each one for a test drive and then make the decision.

Why is it we have to tell so many people to rent - out at least hold - a camera before making a purchase? I have seen dozens of cameras returned because “they didn’t feel right,” is there any way we can get this emblazoned across the the top of the page? If not, I’m going to type and save a “boilerplate” response (similar to my “Welcome to the Hedgehog Zone” greetings to new members) that I can just copy and paste when appropriate!

Same in the tool forums. Routers all spin a bit, but if you are hand holding it you better have a good grip. The problem for some folks is they don't have local stores where they can get their hands on them. I think that is an even bigger problem with photo gear. I don't believe renting is necessary since the big online stores have good return policies. That way the "open box" crowd get something to buy.

Specific information - the opposite of ignorance. Wow! Nebulous would be the better opposite
of specific.

Earlier in this particular thread I saw a couple of references made to Fords and Chevys. Later,
on Pg. 9, I read the comments of IBM on his ''just buy a camera'' mindset. To me that way of
thinking is akin to buying a pig in a poke. I attempted to make an analogy of IBM's methods
by substituting car for camera. Amazingly, you failed to pick up on the analogy.

I've gone back through the thread, noted your responses to other folks entries and have come
away with the feeling that in some instances you might be thinking of yourself as the world's
foremost authority. Because of that, I will now defer to your superior ignorance and bid you
goodbye.

Ignorant yes Superior no and, not an english major just an amateur photographer, simply trying to make a simple observation of what i perceive to be comparison based on technical data and personal usage as opposed to the opinon of someone based on their thoughts on a subject based on his or her opinion alone. And I am sorry if you cannot understand the analogy of comparing a ford to a chevy and a cannon to a nikon. Don't each accomplish the same thing in their own way. if in regards to an automobile If one gets there faster but another saves gas and one looks better then another, which one is the best, couldn't the same be said for cameras. some take better portraits others wildlife, and some landscapes, which is the best. best what Color DOF IQ FPS Buffer ETC. is Picaso Better then Erte, Dali, Disney, But I do try and base my opinions observation Not only on what I have read 3rd party information, but on what I HAVE EXERIANCED PERSONALLY NOT 2ND 3RD OR 4TH HAND. You could be Ansel Adams son for all I know but I have simply tried to obtain the answer to question here on the hog based in Personal expeiance more so then Personal preference or opinion. And am as frustrated with the likes of you as Apparently you are of me.
