Good to have equipment insurance....
I was on the sidelines shooting some semi-pro football action and got taken out. Was blind sided and knocked on my butt and the lens paid the price. Called my insurance carrier and filed a claim, half hour later received an email with what I had to do. I spoke to the claims agent and will have the money direct deposit in my checking account. I have no deductible so I am receiving the price for a replacement new lens ($1300) Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO DG HSM ES. You know I didn't tell the wife, at 71 she would want me to stay in the stands.....LOL. My insurance premium for a year to cover $16,500.00 property damage is only $244 per year, life is good again.
There's an old saying regarding photos. If you pictures aren't good enough, you weren't close enough. You have a souvenir to augment the quality of the photos. I'm glad all worked out well for you.

Good just the lens and not your or the camera got broken. If they let you keep the lens, you can sell it on ebay "For Parts."

Glad you were not injured and, yes, it's better to have insurance and not need it, etc.
With the careful application of a little super glue you will have a killer paperweight. Glad you came through it better than the lens.
Thank you all for your caring posts..... How about a door stop?
That was good to hear how well your insurance agent/insurer took care of you...and, I'm glad you weren't broken too! BTW, who is your equipment insurance carrier?

Are you going to get it fixed? I've had some with more damage and it is just a fraction of the cost of new.

Thank you. When I was shooting on the road I used Hartford at $610/yr. This year I opted for a 650 lb gun safe with shelves. If any thief can move it they can have my equipment😎
I have a professional account at Canon and get all my cameras serviced for free annually. I would have gotten that lens repaired as good as new.

That probably works as long as your camera equipment is in the safe. What happens when you actually use it and it gets stolen. Could be stolen out of your hotel room, car, boat, train, etc. The safe isn't going to be of much help in recouping your investment. Just saying...

I never leave my equipment in the car, hotel or out of my sight. Always take my tripod and camera with me, even to eat. One camera and tripod...maybe a light, covered under homeowners insurance. Many cameras and lights, that is definitely a commercial matter--not covered. For me and my habits, $610/yr was a waste of money. A $1200 gun safe for $600 was a better investment for camera equipment, DVDs, Laptop (and my guns as well). Also did away with my $87 safe deposit box at the bank.
The CPS (Canon Professional Service) membership $100, is definitely a good value. Saved me hundreds of dollars on factory service lens repair, and I have all three cameras censors cleaned and serviced annually. If I have a camera go down, they send me a loaner Fed Ex if I am in a bind.
I'm going out to Sigma here on LI for a walk in estimate. Sigma said that if they can't repair it for less then half the price of a new lens they give discounts to customers who purchase a replacement lens from them. I'll keep you guys posted...may go this Friday to see if it's dead or alive?
