Glad you had insurance and got a replacement. I had some of my gear stolen out of my car at home and it was covered by our home insurance. I submitted $2600. After $500 deductible I got $2250 back. They valued my stuff higher than I did. Everyone should have insurance, you just never know.

...I use AAA on a homeowner policy and haven't had a opportunity to use it for my camera gear yet, *but* I had a theft a couple of years ago while I was on the road in Atlanta. They took my bitchin' laptop (but, oddly enough, left all my camera gear which was right there in a backpack...wow, lucky they were pretty stupid...) and I immediately put in a claim upon return home. I had a new *upgraded* 'puter up and running before the next weekend. Stellar.

How does that censor thing work? Is it like facial recognition but won't shoot if it senses a naked body?

If I were you I'd listen to your wife. There is no such thing as getting blind sided on the side lines; it's called either not paying attention or not being able to get out of the way. I'd guess since you thing you were blind sided it was not paying attention. The next time it could be you who gets broken or you could be responsible for a serious injury to a player.

I must disagree with you sir.....blindsided means just what it states....

Definition of blindside

transitive verb
1 :to hit unexpectedly from or as if from the blind side blindside the quarterback
2 :to surprise unpleasantly

Shooting the play to your left and getting hit from the right side, called blindsided.

I was on the sidelines shooting some semi-pro football action and got taken out. Was blind sided and knocked on my butt and the lens paid the price. Called my insurance carrier and filed a claim, half hour later received an email with what I had to do. I spoke to the claims agent and will have the money direct deposit in my checking account. I have no deductible so I am receiving the price for a replacement new lens ($1300) Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO DG HSM ES. You know I didn't tell the wife, at 71 she would want me to stay in the stands.....LOL. My insurance premium for a year to cover $16,500.00 property damage is only $244 per year, life is good again.

Story with similar ending - I was rear-ended while waiting for the light to change. Long story short - Volvos have their battery in the back. The impact pushed metal into the positive side of the battery, started a fire and since the car is all electric controlled, I could not get the trunk open.

Insurance covered the replacement of a D700, 24-70 F2.8, 14-24 F2.8 and a 150 F2.8 Sigma macro, a pair of Peter Limmer custom made hiking boots, camera bag, filters, batteries, SD cards, backpack etc etc etc. Total bill to replace everything with new was $14,000 give or take and my out of pocket was $0. Between the other driver's insurance and my own, I was made whole.

You can get as picky as you want with defining a word but the bottom line is that you did not know what was going on around you and got taken out because of it. It's dangerous down there and f you can't keep out of players way, then you have no business being down there. Sorry, you may not want to hear it but I am trying to spare you a serious injury to yourself or from being responsible for some player getting hurt. What happened is a sign to you that its time to hang away from the sidelines.

What would have been cool is if you you weren't blindside got the player as he or the football hit you....

Sounds like someone who was never on the sideline of a semi-pro football game shooting the action. Sounds to me as if you are trying to pick the fly s---t out of the pepper.

Good thing that shooting semi-pro football doesn't make you a semi-pro photographer.
