Perhaps you should edit... Thanks for the very useful info, Wallace. Oops, I just said info instead of information. Guess I'm in trouble. Oops, again; I didn't use a complete sentence.

Perhaps you could post an image here, A JPEG from the camera - not processed, and also click <store original>, even us knuckle dragging Canon users may be able to give you an answer!

If you can find the shutter count from someone posting a photo, why can't you just explain HOW you get the shutter count so the person can do it themselves?

Most of the last two pages consists of attempts to explain how to do it for yourself.

First, I'm not a Nikon user. Although people have quite clearly stated that unlike Canon, Nikon does include shutter count data in its image file EXIF meta data, I did not know where to look for it. I had to explore to find out.

Secondly, some kind of software tool is required to read the image meta data, at least if you don't have the camera to interrogate.

Thirdly, each software tool is different in the way that it works. The first one that I used - a Firefox plug in - did not display the shutter count information. The next tool that I used did display that information, referring to it as 'shutter count'. Other people appear to have verfied the result using different tools, but apparently the data is labelled differently by different software tools.

Without knowing what tools people have available to them, it can be a little challenging to explain how to use them.

In this instance the OP had stated that she/he was't very tech savvy, - 'dumb as a rock' was the term used - but wanted to know the answer. By asking for an image, and one with <store original> selected we were able to explain how to provide the community with sufficient information to ascertain the answer to the OP's question, and to verify that answer, which has now been done.

It is sometimes stated that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Personally, I do not believe that to be a universal truth, they may be few and far between, but there is evidence that they do actually exist.

It would also seem that there is a state of being that is actually 'dumber than a rock'!

I guess if he's having fun it should be okay!
Got to be prepared for a little fallout though!

DaveO - I'm not doing this for fun. 1) I and many other UHH members are tired of clicking on posts only to find they don't pertain to us and 2) The UHH Search Tool is based, per Admin, on the title of posts - it titles become more specific, the Search Tool becomes more effective and we all win.

While you have some valid points, you can most likely discern that it's a small part of the forum and relatively insignificant as opposed to the resistance to your stated objectives. Good luck.
