Beloit Memorial High School Jazz Orchestra Playing Ellington.
That group sounds amazing. Truly.
I'm posting for a similar purpose. In addition to teaching, I worked at a classical music station here in St. Louis. I introduced a monthly one-hour show called High School Classics. Each July, I produced a special 90 min. show made from CDs recorded at the state wide conference of high school musicians. Of the different geners, Jazz was one of them. They always sounded so great. When I asked the multitudes of high school music teachers to tell me why, they all had the same answer. The students loved to play jazz.
Why am I telling you this behind-the-scene info? If you have a high school near you, see if you can't encourage the administrations to support the music departments, and to include jazz offerings if not already there. Then go to their concerts and enjoy!

We hear and see much about the current crop of teenagers, that is not always a positive image.
Here's just one group of teenagers from the other side of the coin.
Check out how they enjoy and appreciate each other and relish in the music (jazz) they play.
https://youtu.be/wdJ5qPB-Sq0If you enjoyed this, you'll find lots of HS jazz bands in competition to the right on YouTube or by Googleing.
Enjoy,
Mark
These young men and women are dedicated musicians, I was very impressed.

They are very good. They are very popular in town. Our next neighbor's son has been in the band all four years of high school. He graduated this year. They worked exceedingly hard all year. He was often out of the house by six in the morning for a practice session. He's the sax player at the left end of the front row of the section.
Please tell this young man that I admire his dedication to this music and I hope he plans on furthering his music career.

Small world it is, My Grandson is a trombone player in that band, and I am most proud of him...
That's terrific!! Only 2 degrees of separation?

Watched it yesterday from my "Jazz on the tube" offering. Thought they did a magnificent job.

We have Deer Valley high school in our district that supports a very well respected jazz band. Not sure if they are still active, but they used to enter a lot of competitions and brought home several awards. Not so much about the trophy as it was our listening pleasure for us, but I am sure it meant the world to them.
We have one at our HS, Bridgewater, NJ. Many HS bands in NJ have jazz ensembles.
I also taught. For 40 years - loved every year.
I agree with your comments and appreciate your involvement.
