I am looking into to a purchase of a SonyRX10 111. We all do what we can afford..lol, anyway could use some help on some camera shops that wont rake me over the coals $1298. is what I am finding would like to get it under 1000.00.
Thank you in advance for your knowledge and sharing with me.
I am looking at the same camera - with no excuses.
The price is now down to $1300 everywhere. The only way you are going to see it under $1000 is used from a private seller.
KEH has a used one for $1200. You are hardly getting raked over the coals at $1300 - that is the price. You are probably like myself, a cheap guy that doesn't want to pay what everybody else is paying. . . Just sayin'
Any store that sells a new one for under the standard price is probably selling grey market merchandise which have no manufacturer warranty. Look for reconditioned at the 4 stores mentioned, Adorama, B & H, Cameta, KEH.
Try Greentoe. Put in the price you want to pay and see if you get any offers.

Follow the advice given by everyone here - go to a "trusted vendor" for a fair deal. The vendors are limited in the prices they are allowed to charge which is why they often add "extras" to make it a better deal. Shop around for the deal.
You could go for refurbished from one of the recommended vendors or from the manufacturer. Pre-owned at B&H, Adorama, Cameta, KEH will be safe to buy because they evaluate them, grade them, tell you if there is something wrong with them, and price them according to condition. Plus they have great customer service and return policies.
If you are not set on that particular camera, Sony has a bunch of models for under $1000.00 to choose from. Do some research into the different models, and buy the best you can afford.
If I was buying a new camera I would search what KEH, Adorama, B&H and Camr=eta had to offer in factory refurbished and new cameras and compare and elect from that field

I used focus photo years ago, but shipping costs were prohibitive compared to B and H.

If you have a local camera store, like I do, they may be able to match the price is you show them another. Depending on where you are and the store is you may have to pay sales tax. I like supporting the local dealer since they have classes and help if you need it.
Bill, I'm going to have to throw in with you on this one. I don't see anyone else recommending local camera stores. I just don't see myself buying something as important and as personal as a camera without picking it up and trying it out first. And then comparing it side by side with the competitors. I buy things from B and H and from Adorama, but I always check locally first, and I am usually more than satisfied. I know, some will say all the camera stores around me closed. Why do you think that is?
Except for buying used, reputable camera stores selling with a US warranty sell at almost the same, exact price. $1,395 currently?

Unfortunately for many of us, there are no local camera stores. Everything is a long drive away. When I got my first DSLR, there was a Ritz Camera over in Albany, NY. That is not too far, and I went there. But now that store is closed. I guess not enough people went there even though it was in a big mall where there is a lot of foot traffic!

I would include Amazon in your list.
Digital photography and the various web sites killed the local camera shops. Camera shops couldn't compete with prices offered by B&H, KEH etc.
Dark room was a large part of sales for the camera shops, digital photography just about killed the dark room business. So many people would visit their local camera shop
get all the information from them, and go to the web to buy. In most cases when you buy on line you save the sales tax. You could save as much as $80.00 on a
purchase of a $1000.00 Camera. I didn't mention sitting on your butt, waiting a couple of days for your purchase to arrive, postage free. Or the cost of driving to your local
camera shop trying to find a parking space fuel costs etc. As a previous manufacturer rep. in the photo industry, I know what I'm talking about......Nuf said.

I think it is because so many might go to them to experience handling the equipment but then buy online. They can't survive that way.
Cameta Camera is a neighborhood camera store. I bought my first digital camera from them, a Minolta with a swivel lens. The lens could be tethered on a 3 foot cord. That made it possible to hide the screen from the sun.
The folks at Cameta must have been tech savvy.
