Desktop Icon dilemma

Every time Microsoft updates my Windows 10 on my PC, the desktop icons all scramble to the left side of the screen. I have many of them and keep them arraigned in a certain pattern on the screen. A Google search yields only s vague suggestions. Anyone know the solution to this? They never used to do this and I don't think I have made any changes preferences. Right clicking does not give an option to manual arrange them. Any help would be appreciated.

It is on and refers to the opening welcome screen not the desktop icon screen. I think. No help

Is there a reason why you cannot drag them around and reorder them? Also, if you right click on a blank space of your desktop, a menu appears. There are several choices for arranging desktop icons.

Thanks for the reply Mark
Yes I can drag them around but have to drag all, (many) every time there is an update or power outage. When I right click I do not have an option to manually arrange the icon. There is auto, snap to grid and show desktop,
plus the size under the view option. That is all
In searching the internet I have found that others have experienced similar problems and recommend plug in programs or complicated changes that I am afraid to try not being a computes whiz. There should be an option such as manual arrange or something like that.
What do you think?

You are welcome. When I right click an empty space on my desktop I get a menu that includes, "sort by", with four options. Those options may not rearrange by your preferred method, but it may help. (I run Win 10 Pro, 64 bit)

Take a screenshot of the desktop when you have the icons arranged as you like them. Then use that for your wallpaper.

malarz, using your icons as wallpaper does not make them active--you can't go to them by clicking the wallpaper.

Charles, thanks for pointing that out. I'm well aware of that and thus the comment and link to a video which was inspirational to making that comment. Having worked sys admin for a number of years, that particular video is one of my favorites.

Why not put those shortcuts in the START menu, then they won't change. Check out: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-start/how-can-i-add-shortcuts-to-the-windows-10-start/cd53f04c-ea86-4565-b502-d17bc00fb1b8?rtAction=1504261516278
If you have many icons, make them 'small', and organize them the way you want. This will let them survive through Win10 updates.
