Didn't I say 46? OK, hand me that dunce cap if no one else is using it, please.

Just couldn’t resist!
Edit: Judging by some of the other comments, there may be a waiting list for that cap!

Do you really think that the difference between 46mp and 50mp is enough to qualify one over the other?
More important is the fact that the 50MP Canon cameras have shown some of the issues with using such high pixel counts. Before they were released, my back-of-envelope calculations showed a pixel density close to what a 24MP APS-C has, which erases some of the benefits FF is always claiming, and in fact the Canon cameras have a more limited ISO range, for example. Nikon has had more time to work on those issues, but I'm starting to hear things indicating that the D500 isn't quite as great as we outsiders had thought, so we'll all have to take a deep breath and see what happens.

IMHO, the D500 is an OUTSTANDING camera AND value. I am continuously wowed by the results I get from it, especially in lower light. Best of luck.

Congrats Nikon - You hit one out of the park. I particularly like being able to shoot at 20mp and switch to 46mp for really big results on a sturdy tripod.

Nikon hasn't made a pro camera since the F2.
Just living on ancient past reputation that was shown to be a fallacy by the EOS system that Nikon still can't catch up with.

If you test drive a Hassy, you better have a lot of straight road!
That thing isn't fast enough to get out of its own way! It will fly off the road in the first turn!
There is absolutely NO WAY you can compare the versatility of the FF, D850 to a Hassy, in either speed or lens selection or ease of use, thus outright performance and versatility, and that's cost aside!
The Hassy is a GREAT digital, if you have use for a pony that only knows ONE trick!!!

For all who don't like the use of the word "best", put a question mark at the end of the title.

I'm not familiar with how to produce, in camera, reduced mp RAW files in FF for either my 810 or 750s. Perhaps one of the above posters can give me guidance.

I expect the 850 to be the pro camera to have and to shake up all other pro cameras. We'll see.

I'll wait six months before ordering a couple.

Have you tried them yourself? What do you see them doing??

No I haven't tried them. -- The 46 will be great for studio work and other applications where the camera is attached to a sturdy tripod with the highest quality lenses and good control over depth-of-field. The 25 for general hand held work. The 12 for press / sports work that needs to be submitted quickly.

Not every photo a pro makes needs to be from an 90MB file. But it will be nice to have that option always available.

This may help:
In the manuals, D750 - Pages 117-118. D810 - Pages 81-83.

One camera that meets several needs.
Doesn't look to me like it will be a jack of all trades, master of none.
Now if it only had a cell phone in it...

Think about this. The 850 can shoot at 9 FPS and has the D5's AF. That's at 46mp or 25mp or 12mp.

Sounds to me like a sports / PJ body, a studio body, and a general use body. Landscape, wedding, studio, sports... --- All in one.

And what about 1850 shots with the small battery and over 5000 shots with the grip battery - spectacular.
