I went to Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge to get mine yesterday which is only 35 miles away. They know me there and knew I was handicapped and my nephew was with me and he is also handicapped so they issued both of us one for free. I didn't know about these until they mentioned it and they said you get the same benefits. So if you are handicapped you can get one for free. I'm 66 but my nephew is 49 so age does not matter if you are handicapped.

Good! Although I would rather not qualify for the free pass.

I had two close calls before I sold my bike. I know of someone who was killed that way. He waited too long to stop at the end of the day.

I have a question that perhaps some of you can answer.

The last column of the list of places where the permit can be purchased is headed: Access
Military

4th Grade

Anybody able to explain what that means? Thanks.

Its for Annual Passes to National Parks. Info below is from the NPS website.

Military Pass: Free - Eligibility: Active duty military members and dependents. Show your Common Access Card (CAC) or Military ID (Form 1173) to obtain this pass.

4th Grade Pass: Free - Eligibility: U.S. 4th graders during the school year and following summer. To obtain this pass, go to the Every Kid in a Park website and print a paper pass after completing a short activity. Bring the paper pass with you and you can exchange it for the Annual 4th Grade Pass. Digital screenshots will not be accepted. The 4th grader must be present.

Just picked up a spare while in Salem, OR with my brother. For just $10 it is a steal to have the backup. The new fee of $80 will still be a bargain, but I REALLY like the $10 deal! My original has paid for itself many, many times over.

I'm wondering if it's worth a two-hour round trip drive to buy a spare.

I think that would depend on how often you plan on using it and if you have a tendency to lose or misplace things. I did not have but a 20 minute round trip for mine and I feel it was totally worth it. For what it's worth, I believe I would even make the two hour round trip. Being retired I have the time to invest. If you did not already make the trip today it doesn't matter. It goes up to $80 tomorrow.
