here's another very significant distinction... Lee has effectively been co-opted by the white nationalist movement, kkk and other neo-confederates.... I totally agree he was a great man and a patriot...

however many statuary of him, was not to honor him, but rather as a backlash to civil rights movements of the time, and let blacks know who was still in charge... 1924.

And, in fact, Robert E. Lee was opposed to putting up Confederate war monuments, or flying the Confederate flag after the war.
