Have her sign a model release. Set up a second camera, far enough back to show the whole studio set up, to video the entire shoot, so she can't claim you did anything you did not. If she tries, you have the video to take into court as evidence.

Two non negotiable stipulations: a female stylist on set with you to touch up hair, makeup and adjust clothing, drapes, etc. Never touch the subject yourself. And a lighting assistant, can be male or female. Thats your crew and your protection.

I have a question for all of you. I have an acquaintance that has contacted me about doing a Boudoir shoot. She wants the photos to surprise her boyfriend with. I have done this kind of photography before, but with trusted close friends. However this is someone that I have not known for long. My question is, in this day and age of law suites and untrue accusations, how can I protect myself against any problems. She has requested that there not be anyone else at the session. I am tempted to turn down the session, but at the same time, I don't want to offend her.

Dead easy to sort out set up a small camera in studio and record everything and tell your model that everything is being recorded for the protection of you both. My self I would never shoot on instudio or location alone. I never follow a woman up stairs and would never be alone in a lift in car No way! Remember don't put yourself in a situation then you will never have to get out one. I am sure nothing untoward will happen. My shoot safe policy is cover your self and record everything.

Yes, have a trusted female assistant with you. Pick one who has some talent in aesthetics, makeup, glamour or similar. Make sure the "model" knows this beforehand. Also, since I am a paranoid individual (former police) I would tape record every minute I am there. You start it before you knock on the door by stating the date, time and who is present. You end it when you exit the door by stating again the date and time. Not video, but audio only. And I would do that without telling the "model" I was recording. That is your insurance. If she were to allege any impropriety or even a criminal offense, the police would use the recording to not only exonerate you but in the prosecution of her for filing a false police report. Just as importantly, have a great time doing this shoot. Not everybody is out to get you, but taking precautions is essential in our brave new world.

I'll answer for him: NO, he does not.

What a foul comment in a photography forum, and one which demonstrates both the need to be extremely careful, professional and cautious. While, personally, I won't do this kind of work for many reasons, if I was to, I would be sure to have a same sex as the subject observer in the room at all times, and one I trusted implicitly.

Vulgar comments are common from those who are immature, not from adults. DISGUSTING!

These days, it doesn't matter.

I like some of these replies. Fe-get-about-it! Tell her to find some pimple-faced teen aged kid with an iPhone.

Excellent suggestion. Otherwise have the entire room video-taped with sound, from her entrance to exit.

My, how topics have changed! It has been a very long time since I peeked in on UHH, and this is not something I expected to see. I glanced at the replies, and found them all either valid points, or hysterically funny. I did not, however, notice any responses from women. It's very possible that their profile is intentionally ambiguous, and that's all good. I'll just add my $.02.

Does this potential client refuse to have a nurse in the room when she is at the gyn. for her annual appointment? The nurse is there not just to be an extra set of hands to assist the doctor, she is there for the protection of both the patient and the doctor. This is the same kind of situation. You need to protect yourself.

If you can't bring someone in to assist with hair and make-up, you will need/want someone to change lenses/filters/adjust lighting, etc for you. If your potential client refuses that, tell her the session will be voice or video recorded. If she balks at that, then run for the hills. This sounds like a set up waiting to happen.

I hate to make the young lady sound like a villain, but if she does not want any witnesses around but is willing to have photos taken of her by an (almost) complete stranger, something is really off.

Yes, I am the other woman on here and it would be best if the photographer told her no. We all have to be careful and it is something that I wouldn't feel comfortable in doing and we all sense that you are not otherwise you would not have asked for our opinions. It would be best to point this lady in the direction of the local studio that will take her photos and it will save you a lot of stress. You really don't need it. There is a saying "business and friendship don't mix".

Just be professional, I have been shooting glamour, nudes, playboy stuff for over 45 years . I have never had a problem, because I am a true professional. If you can get her to bring a girl friend it could help

Only thing else I would do, other than what is already mentioned, is get a model release explaining the type of session.

Agree. Foremost, you must protect yourself in this business.

Very simple. Have a close and trusted female friend present at the session. Let the subject know ahead of time. If she objects, tell her that it is not a negotiable point. You need your "assistant" there for various tasks. If she bails as a result, fine. The choice was hers. You were thinking of turning it down anyway. Additionally, you come out of this with your character and reputation intact.

I would pass on the job. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
