Sometimes there is a carpet, sometimes not. A broom may or may not be needed. That hardly qualifies it as the #1 accessory. It might be nice to have, but the #1 accessory should be something you will need every time or at least in 90% of the cases.

Broom is definitely the wrong answer. Hey, even Alex Trebek has the wrong answer occasionally.

Ahh, The Broom, the bonny bonny broom

A camera is not an accessory, it is a tool. A tripod is an accessory but to me it is a necessity.

Subjects. Without a subject to take a picture of no need for a camera

Here's the clue. See the photo.

Since you didn't give the poor guy an answer, this may not be of help to him.

The answer has been given. The ability to comprehend it is not a given unfortunately. Does it need to be spelled out?

I agree with camerapapi, the camera is not the accessory. It's the main tool of the photo. Everything else that is used with the camera to make the photo could be considered to be an accessory.

There needs to be a muddy dog running around to give a more "lived in" look.

What did you use to produce the light on the chimney above the fireplace? A flash with a snoot? A speedlight with a Better Beamer?

All of my work is natural lighting with a little bit of fill lighting. And multible exposures. Then blend in in elements.

I think so. My first reaction was a wide angle lens, or course, but it could also have been a flash unit.
In particular, as an obviously inexperienced photographer, he might have no idea what you were getting at.
