Recognized the Chain of Rocks bridge before seeing the title. My family used to go back east every fall before school started in Sept. Indiana and Ohio was where we would go on different roads than 66. Never went all the way to Chicago. Every time we would go through St. Louis, Mo. it was guaranteed we would get lost until they built the bypass. When you would come to an intersection the signs would point in all three directions, no indication which was the bypass, direct, or city route. Born in Indiana, but have been a Californian since 1952.
that is a trip I want to take some day.I have traveled most of route 66 through az and calif but not the rest of the way. There is a dvd set of 5 discs, called Marathon Tour Chicago to L.A thet follows route 66 through each state and a map of the original hwy.it is a great set for anyone interested in route 66. It was made in 2005 by Madacy Entertainment L.P distributed by Madacy Home Video PO box 1445;ST Laurent Quebec Canada;check it out.

The bridge is only open for pedestrians and bicyclists but our guide got special permission for us to cross it on our motorcycles- very cool !

Some of the best and most continuous parts of the road are in Illinois,Missouri and Oklahoma. Hope you get there !
Cool images. Must have been one heck of a trip!!

I've only recently seen a small section of Route 66. We did stand on the corner in Winslow AZ.
I will check out your other pics. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful memories! What a good trip! Who took the pictures of you and your wife together? They did good, too! Fantastic set, rspmd23!

Our tour guide took the pictures of the two of us.
Glad everyone enjoyed the ride with us!!
That's the way I like to travel, off the freeways. 66 is still accessable most of the way.....I have traveled it several times. Selegman AZ and oatman are two of my favorite places.. I've never done it on a bike... Always a trailer.....a bike would be fun too, if I could still ride.
Very cool series of photos. I'm looking forward to the rest of the installments.

My wife and I recently completed Route 66 from Chicago to LA on my Harley. It was the trip of a lifetime. We got to experience America away from the interstates. The people, places and things we met and saw created memories that will last a lifetime. I am posting some shots from the trip- these are not contest quality- but rather to give you a taste for the road. Enjoy !

Parts 2 and 3 are already posted. Enjoy !
These bring back pleasant memories. I rode the Route from Chicago to Santa Monica twice on my Goldwing in 2008 & 2009. I have close to 2000 shots that I took with my old Rebel, and I would be hard tasked to pick my favorite.
Thanks for the memories.

Harley Davidson has a great map of the route with turn by turn directions and sites to see for the entire route.
Very cool photos. Hope you post more, would love to see them.
