I just returned from a 10 day dragonfly expedition to Costa Rica. It was amazing. The accommodations were a bit spartan and the food was different and good. When I'm here in PA surveying for dragons the main thing to watch out for is not getting stuck in the goo in bogs and wetlands. There you had to watch out for that and crocodiles. At the one lagoon we surveyed we were told to be careful because 4 dogs were taken so far this year! They were there and we saw them. (Didn't lose anyone). So why start with hummingbirds? I wanted to show my fellow Hoggers more than just dragons and damsels. I'm not a bird shooter but these guys were everywhere and so beautiful. I'm not sure of some of the names others I am sure of. If you have corrections pleas feel free to let me know. I hope you enjoy my first installment in this series.

Thanks so much. They were shot with a Canon 80D with a Canon 300mm 1:3 L IS and 37mm of extension tubes. As for the settings, the lighting conditions were always changing- open areas with sun, heavy vegetation, clouds, rain etc. But the range was f/5.6 - 6.3, ISO 640-1600, and 1/80 - 1/400. Challenging conditions and lots of discarded shots but fun. I don't normally shoot birds and these guys are quick. Had a few empty branch shots. I appreciate you looking in.

Thank you Corky. I was lucky to get some good shots. Glad you liked them. The conditions from shot to shot were ever changing as was the weather.

A Superb set Doc.
Wow Jim coming from the expert bird photographer that's quite the compliment. I won't let it go to my head. I had trouble keeping up sometimes with the lighting, vegetation, and weather changing every minute. Thanks so much for you evaluation. It means a lot to me. Cheers
