I found this "Thistle" along a little back road I take frequently on the way home. Thistles are considered a noxious weed in north Idaho, but I see it as another photo opportunity.
I'm thinking if you add the purple to the B&W it could be interesting.
Of the 2 I like the B&W the best.

Bill de, what a great idea. I've done this before, but I just didn't think of it this time. I really like it.

I agree. The purple would make that B&W pop. Nice shot! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Dan, I just made the conversion to preserve the purple flower. It looks pretty good.

Gary, I'm a big fan of thistles. These are neat looking and I love the color. The B&W makes me think of frost and I like it just as much as the color version.

I agree Carol, I like the look of thistle, and have been planning to get some shots of them for a while. They are just starting to bloom around here, so will probably keep an eye for some better ones. Flipping flowers to B&W sometimes gives interesting look.
I see my cosmos and black eyed Susan's are starting bloom. They will keep me occupied for a bit too.

Gary, I sort of envy the fact that your flowers are just coming into their full glory while down here everything is pretty much baked and past its best look. Oh well, that is the way of nature and at least I can enjoy all the Northern flowers!

I'd love to see how it turned out. Could you attach it?
Both are excellent photos, but I prefer the color version.

Hi Dan, I attached the B&W thistle with the purple top. It is interesting. I didn't do much editing, so there a lot of room for improvement.

Hi tbell7D,
I'm glad you liked the thistle pics. I agree, the color image is better. The B&W doesn't do much for me, but sometimes if I let it age a bit they look better after a while.

Hi Jerry,
I thought the thistles would turn out better with the black background than they did, but the colored version is probably the best. Oh well, it just gives me incentive to find a better subject. Two of my neighbors have some domestic thistles that look really interesting, and I need to locate some teasels to photograph.
I'm pleased you liked the pics.

Beautiful, Gary, both the color and the black and white, each for their own perspectives.
