It was a resounding success. Learn something about reality.

Success ??? The war on poverty was a disaster, billions of dollars and there no better off now then they were then. I think you need to look it up. We could have bought all those people new homes and saved billions. You can't make people become reliable citizens.

Amen Brother! While I agree that some people do truly need the food stamps, why not ramp up the investigation of the people abusing the program.

Exactly. It gives them dignity and also gives them a sense of work ethic as well as work experience that they can use for other jobs. It lets others see them and how hard they can work, or not. Working while on welfare is something that should be required of welfare recipients unless they are disabled and unable to do some type of labor. But then they would more than likely fall under SSI disability and not welfare.

The problem with the above is that the Left seems to think that making people work for the money they receive is degrading to them and embarrassing. I totally disagree. If it is that degrading and embarrassing then let them get their butts off the government dole and go to work. It is degrading to me to have worked all my life for what I received while others generally make more money for doing absolutely nothing.

Yes, I agree. Working gives a human being a sense of worth in the community and a member of it. Not working makes one feel secluded, left out and worthless.

"Should Americans need further proof of the absurdity of our federal government, they need look no further than the decision by the Food and Drug Administration to regulate added sugars in food products.

This same government has spent billions of dollars subsidizing domestic sugar production. Thus, the government seeks, simultaneously, to curb and promote sugar consumption.

Perhaps this discontinuity is a blessing in disguise. Were the federal government capable of unity of purpose, American liberty would be in even greater jeopardy."

Where is a contemporary version of the New Deal's Works Projects Administration that built roads, shelters in parks, various projects for the public good? Where are the trillions promised for infrastructure repair?

You are asking me??? Maybe you better ask the Obama administration who did nothing for infrastructure, nothing for the poor, nothing but promote even more people on welfare while asking nothing from them in return. How long can a government endure when it tries to redistribute my money, and yours too, to people who are not working and in many cases have no desire to even look for work. Why should people even want to work when we have a government who gives them more money in welfare payments than they can earn while working?

And don't forget the billions to illegals while denying Americans benefits they were forced to pay for. That's the point that has me most riled.

We have a serious failure to communicate. We are operating on two (or more) seriously different perspectives and understandings of many issues. It also seems many are speaking based on general knowledge without trying to fact check. How can we have a government that works for as many people as possible when we all just jump on one bandwagon or the other without trying to really get at what is going on and to understand the programs we are considering. There is so much misinformation in some of these posts it really does seem like an alternative reality.

And least you think I'm just criticizing one side or the other--that is not my intention--I see the same thoughtless behavior from all sides of the political spectrum. And, yes, there are many sources to blame because everyone lies but it can stop with each individual who takes some time to weight information and arrive at conclusions based on the best information available. And if that requires education so be it.

Education is the key word and not the political brow beating that many collages and universities are doing now.

Right, that's the thing that bothered me the most, turning his back on the veterans to help illegals. The left does nothing unless it helps them to stay in power, so bringing these people in has nothing to do with helping them and more to do with keeping control over us Americans.

OMG!!! Don't bring up true facts or the Left won't know how to handle them. They have lived for so long in allah la land that they would not know how to live in a real world.

The problem with educating yourself is going to the right sources. There are many deceitful and dishonest sources and one has to be able to know one from the other and few people are capable of doing that.

And the new administration is no different. They claim they've done a lot for veterans, yet I now several and they say not a thing has been done; same crap as before and absolutely not a squeak of change. Same dookey, different a*s in the white house.

Where do your friends go for their VA medical service? I go to the center in Santa Barbara. It has always been great with caring people there all the time. It is not all centers that are/were crappy and unprofessional, just a few. Under Obama those people were never fired even though some veterans died, two sets of books, prescribing drugs that were not warranted turning vets into junkies etc. I understand a few of the people were transferred with a promotion.
