I've been there--it is a great pace to visit. Nice photos, James.

Very nice imagery, James. Not surprised the legend lives and is honored in that way. Here's a KY & NY connection... In 1972, we went to Belmont Racetrack in NY (just a couple of blocks from my wife's home). She made her only bet on a 2 yr old horse because she liked its colors...Secretariat. She read up on Secretariat learning that Belmont Racetrack was named in honor of the work of the Belmont family who bred Man-o-War.

Thanks for your story, I love it when people have interesting stories to share, so thanks again. Secretariat was another great champion honored here at Kentucky Horse Park with a beautiful lifesized statue depicting him being led to the winners circle after his win at the Kentucky Derby. I'll post a photo of it on UHH later.

Beautiful shots. It may be interesting to note that the horses interred there are buried in their entirety. Man O' War was moved there a couple of years after his death.

Yes, we saw photos of Man-O-War in his (open for photography) very large casket (laying on his right side) during a historical feature film they showed about his life.

Thanks Larry, I enjoyed Kentucky Horse Park more than I thought I would because the place is kept so pristine and has a lot to see. BTW, enjoyed your recent Smokies set. I took a helicopter flight last June over the area. Got to see the fire damage from above. Keep up the good work and your usual superb quality.

Sure is, and not what I expected...but I'm a city boy and didn't know what to expect. I left with a great appreciation for horses and those who care for them. I will be posted a few more Horse Park images whenever I get time to process a few.

Folks, while in Kentucky one should try to make a trip to the "Kentucky Horse Park" near Lexington. Here they show the depth of love for horses that many Kentuckians share. We got to see all sorts of horses from Work horses to Thoroughbred racing horses. They also have a museum dedicated to horses throughout history. One very famous horse buried here is Man-O-War (1917-1947). He was born near Lexington and won 21 of the 20 races he ran. I was touched by the beauty and honor of his final resting place which overlooks the park. He's buried here with his son and Triple Crown winner "War Admiral" along with many of his other sons and daughters.
Here are a few of my shots as I quietly walked around his beautiful grave.

James, we have been there many times. I have not read all responses, so someone may have already made this known. Man-O-War is the only race horse what has had his whole body buried. They made a casket for him and lined it with his stable colors of black and gold. It too 22 bottles of embalming fluid for his huge body. Race horse graves are only about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. They only contain the parts that are thought to be all he uses to win races...his head, heart and feet. The rest goes into dog food. Yucky info but true. BTW Secretariat had the largest heart of any race horse ever.

Wonderful shots, James. I read a biography of that horse many years ago which sure made an impression on me. I enjoyed seeing these pictures of where he's buried.

James, thank you for the reminder. Our grand daughters were in to eventing and competed there several times over the years. Lot of happy memories.
