Folks, while in Kentucky one should try to make a trip to the "Kentucky Horse Park" near Lexington. Here they show the depth of love for horses that many Kentuckians share. We got to see all sorts of horses from Work horses to Thoroughbred racing horses. They also have a museum dedicated to horses throughout history. One very famous horse buried here is Man-O-War (1917-1947). He was born near Lexington and won 21 of the 20 races he ran. I was touched by the beauty and honor of his final resting place which overlooks the park. He's buried here with his son and Triple Crown winner "War Admiral" along with many of his other sons and daughters.
Here are a few of my shots as I quietly walked around his beautiful grave.

The photography is wonderful.... The message is absurd
Nice pics James. Driving through Kentucky I've seen that devotion to the equestrian lifestyle.
Nicely done!
I assume you meant he won 20 out of 21 races?

Beautiful creatures aren't they...and great athletes...good job!!
I remember reading a book about Man-O-War, Jim. A fitting monument to a great champion. Your images certainly do it justice. Well done.
I had no idea that the famous Man-O-War had such an elaborate grave site. You really did a nice job of photographing his final resting place.
Beautiful captures of a fitting tribute to a great horse.
Nice job showing us this, James. The horse was a legend. I recall hearing his name when I was a kid as 'best ever.'
Very nice imagery, James. Not surprised the legend lives and is honored in that way. Here's a KY & NY connection... In 1972, we went to Belmont Racetrack in NY (just a couple of blocks from my wife's home). She made her only bet on a 2 yr old horse because she liked its colors...Secretariat. She read up on Secretariat learning that Belmont Racetrack was named in honor of the work of the Belmont family who bred Man-o-War.
Beautiful shots. It may be interesting to note that the horses interred there are buried in their entirety. Man O' War was moved there a couple of years after his death.
I want to be buried there!
