i agree.....take a look at my photos..i use a digital 6.1 pixel kodak camera right now and not to brag but i do produce some amasing shots...i use the lighting from the sun, cloud cover, shadow angles and they come out amasing..its not the camera its the eye you have....we would love to see your work...its all about bringing out the beauty YOU see..not what the camera see's....

see I knew there was an interesting story to that nickname. my screen name is obvious, i wish it was cause i sound like sinatra. its cause i love the sinatra sound and style. if my screen name was based on how I sing, I would be called woundedmoosegoingintolaborman, which is really too long. Now OP i like the professional, and smart, and if you had added you all are so sexy, I would have to put you #1 on my christmas list.

"woundedmoosegoingintolaborman" LOL That's just about the funniest thing I've ever read on UHH!, or anywhere else, for that matter. I'm sure glad they limit the number of letters in screen-names. Actually... wouldn't you actually had to have actually heard a real genuine wounded moose going into labor to know what one sounds like? And, nope, I'm not the least bit sexy. I'm not of that gender, and I'd also make an excellent mascot for The Ugly Hedge Hog.

[quote=gizzy.whicker]Well... bobmielke, I too have a Nikon D40, 6MP like Hugh Stockton's. So... I'm just wondering... there must be something besides the camera and lens that goes into a photograph being so-so, good, better, or great. Don't you reckon?

Yep, it's called eye, heart, & soul. Composition and all the rules & other things can be learned but those above are a gift.

Yes sir, and I know one such fellow in our local camera club who's gift is so acute that on two different occasions he's stuck his P&S camera out his truck window with resulting photos taking first place (out of hundreds submitted) at our local Lakeland College's annual photo contest. Frosts my patootie, I'll tell you. I go to GREAT lengths and GREAT pains to enter the same contest and come home with also-rans.

You need to cut back on the coffee, man! You're making my screen flicker, and giving me one of rocco's infamous headaxches.

Thanks to all o you, You have made me feel much better and I will post some of my pictures in a few days. I am looking forward to hearing ways I can improve my photos. I hope I didn't offend anyone by calling you geeks, It's just that you all sound so professional and smart.

Hello there luvphotos : ) Today is my first time here and I'm not a professional..I just absolutely love photography! I've been taking photos for about 5 years and I have sooooo much to learn. I do understand how you feel thou..I was asked to join a photo club and my first reaction was "no, they're all too good and my photos won't be good enough" We have to "not" feel that way as I just read from other members here..and we'll be in the same "newbie boat" together...how's that sound lol : ) By the way, I'm Mary from CT..nice to meet you!

And sometimes they don't. I think glowing criticism when it's not absolutely called for is, in the long run, damaging.

I could not argee more, if people would have told me what I WANTED to hear a year ago, I would never have grown as a photographer, I would have been still producing overly PP images, that were OOF. I hope that I continue to get the feedback that I need in order to grow even more as a photographer.

The first time I got honest CC, my feelings were hurt, but I took the advice and applied it, and came back and posted more photos looking for CC. Slowly I got better and learned to see what others were talking about.

Well, guys, all I can tell you is I hope you never make it to the top. Oh how I remember those fun-filled days struggling up the ladder toward the peak of Photographdom. And now... look at me... alone and lonely... it's sooo lonely up here at the top.
