I took photos today of a small firearm part using my Nikon D800 and a Nikon 105mm Micro lens. I was never able to upload the photos to the sale site because the photos were too large. Can someone please explain to me two questions:
1. How do I take photos so they will not be over 1 MB?
2. How can I crop or what can I do to make the photos smaller and then be able to publish?
Dennis
I use PSE to save a copy for the web selection and it is downsized automatically.

It must be very important to you to be unkind. Why else go out of your way to do it?

You've mentioned that you're driving a Mac, so .....
You should ALWAYS capture your images at full resolution. One you've an image with which to work, open the file in:
1. Photoshop, and adjust as to taste. Then click on any one of several places in the File menu: "Save as," then select "jpeg," and then choose size and resolution in the resulting drop down window; "Export as." which yields another drop down window, in which you can specify file type and size settings; or choose "Save for web (Legacy," and go from there.
2. If you're working these files in Lightroom, after you've made your adjustments, click on "Export," which brings up a dialogue box, in which you can select file type (most likely, you'll need jpeg for web use), and then specify size and resolution and then export. Fast way to get to where you need to go is to choose "email (hard drive)," and set a destination to receive your export and then adjust the settings that come up automatically for that.
If any of these dialogue boxes ask you to chose a color model, go with sRGB, as this is what most websites and print shops will want.
No need for third party software or for Windows emulators.
I have Lightroom, Elements, Photoshop and Capture NX 2, I always use the free Fastone Image Viewer for resizing. It is also my favorite image viewer. You can download it here:
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
Export to JPEG and save at 80% image quality.

OMG and Holy Crap, now why didn't I think of doing that? It seems oh so very easy now. I guess with that idea in mind there is really no need at all for any questions here on UHH. Each of us will just learn to use our software, even those of us who do not seem to have the prerequisite software, so as to not bother anyone else here on the forum. Yes, the forum that I assume was set up specifically for those of us who do not know everything (unlike you of course) to seek help from others.
This makes twice today alone that you have been spanked by others. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, wear your jimmies too tight last night, sun didn't rise high enough for you yet today, WHAT???
If all you are going to do is be pissy then why waste your valuable time answering something when you are absolutely no help at all. I think we would all prefer you just said nothing at all then waste our time too.
PLEASE have a wonderful day,
Dennis

I always shoot JPEG's. How do I export a JPEG to a JPEG?
Dennis
I want to thank everyone so far for your answers and suggestions. If I have not specifically thanked you it is because I am seriously considering your suggestions and looking for time to give them a try. I do thank you for your suggestions and look forward to trying them. Right now life has seemed to take up much of my time. Yesterday when I was listing the item I had all the time in the world. Today, when I have numerous suggestions to try my time is taken up and it looks like tomorrow as well.
I do not have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (are they the same thing)? I do have Lightroom 5 and will look at that. The Fastone looks promising as well.
Thank you all again,
Dennis
There is a program called Quick Resizer available in the App Store. It works very well.

I will look into it. Thanks.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to me finding a workable solution to resizing photos. I think I am fine now. I have LR6 but have not used it much at all. I used it today after seeing a youtube video of resizing photos and it worked well. I believe my problems are solved. Well, this one at least.
Thanks again,
Dennis
