go to the NIKON website they often sell referbs and stand behind them 100%
If you do some research you might find Abe's aka Abe's of Maine is not based in Maine any longer,
Copied from Abe's website history page on the web
In 1986 the Abe's of Maine family moved to a more convenient location - Brooklyn, New York. In magazine ads, there was a small addition beneath our name that informed customers where we were located, with the words "of Maine". After the first few years our reputation came to be known as that awesome electronics store, from or "of Maine".
So caveat emptor.
They did alright by me. I'd buy from them again.
I bought from them when it was Abe's of Maine. Long time ago. It bis not the same people, I would skip them.

Let me say it again. Abe's of Maine ( located in New Jersey ) advertised a low price on a lens and it turned out that they had stripped the lens of the two plastic caps, the tripod mount and the flimsy suede case and wanted to sell them to me for $170. And then started insulting me when I didn't fall for it! And threatened me ( tried to manipulate me ) by saying I was going to be charged a cancelation fee of 25%!! That's dirty dealing. Anyone that would even think of doing something like that, never mind following through with it on a daily basis, is evil and shouldn't be allowed to conduct business. Those ads are still running. I don't know why I didn't think of it before but I'm going to write to Nikon and see if I can hear their opinion on the matter.

Yes, definitely call Nikon USA and ask if you should buy from them or an unauthorized gray market dealer.
What kind of answer do you expect?

I'm not going to ask if I should buy from them. I already have decided that. I don't need theirs or anyone else's advice on that. How do you know they're a grey market dealer? I'm going to notify them of the sales tactic that was used on me and see if they have an opinion on it. Since Abe's doesn't admit to being a grey market dealer or unauthorized I don't know what to expect, but I do expect to publish whatever the answer is.

I will be somewhat surprised if you even get a reply from them.

I wouldn't t be surprised either! I found a scammer on Amazon and they didn't seem surprised and all they could say was if you're suspicious of the ad then don't buy it. She didn't ask me any questions. I figured they would want to look into it and take it down. It was down when I went back and looked but I didn't get the impression from them that it was a regular practice of theirs to look into scammers on there website! There was another one in its place when I looked. The add said " please contact the seller to be sure the item is available" when I sent an email they said "sure it's still available, give me all your information and I'll order it from Amazon for you" hah hah hah! There will be no end to the ways people will try to screw other people. I feel bad for the people that fall for this stuff!!
I did buy a canon 7D Mark ii from them. It turned out to be new, shutter count 1, and had a Canon battery and charger. I saved $100 from everybody else BUT the wi-fi chip was missing and two of the CD's incl the operating manual. They did pull the bait-&-switch stunt and after reading many other complaints of {not USA} products, I wonder why they carry so much stuff that can't be used in USA when that's where they are selling. My opinion is stay away from them. Not worth the $100.
