Trading stocks in companies that are affected by the legislation one is voting on is the very definition of corruption.

The entire system--republican, democrat, liberal, conservative-- is corrupt. Iy was not designed that way for a reason. The founders were very much afraid of a ruling class. Thats the reason for term limits in the house and senate. The house was designed for citizen legislators. Serve a term or 2 or 3 and then return to "regular" jobs. The senate more patrician with a 6 year term. Serve a term or 2 and return to regular citizenship. But now "serving' in congress is a life lond profession. Now legislators are career politicians and we Do have a ruling class. They run for office not to serve but to enrich themselves at the cost of the citizenry. They pass laws that they exempt thenselves from following. There ought to be a constitutional amendment to require members of congress to be required to have laws that they pass to apply to themselves. Term limits must be installed to prevent a rulling class. Rant is officially over.

I agree with most of this. However, isn't voting an inherent term limit?

We get the government we deserve.

We also get the government we elect, except when the system breaks down and we wind up with a president that won the unpopular vote and represents the minority.

But the president can't do anything without congress, and they were all elected by the popular vote.

On the surface, yes. But when the same people run for the same office time and again, how does one vote them out. It takes huge amounts of money to mount a campaign against an incumbent. Most people can't collect that much. So, the incumbents continue to be incumbents when we'd wish them to be outcumbents.
