Thanks for bringing up this topic. I have a Coolpix P900 and I love the camera. I was thinking about getting a remote. Now I know what I will need to do and how to set it up. Thanks everyone.

I have one and it works fine. You do have to go into the menu and turn it on as has been mentioned.

Hi Pepper;

What model of wired cable release do you have? Nikon or third party? What port on the CoolPix P900 do you attach the cable release??

I question this because Nikon does not officially list a wired cable release for the CoolPix P900 and from examination of the CoolPix Operator's Manual there does not seem to be a port to plug a wired cable release into, weird!

regards,

Garth

Why is this so difficult. There's either a cable for it. Or not?

I got a Vivitar remote, viv-rc-6000b-NIK for $5 and it works on both the P900 and the D7000

Hi Alfie, if you think you have it tough buying locally made products in the UK, you should try buying locally made in Canada!! We are good at knocking over large trees and sawing up timber into lumber for housing, digging up coal, pumping oil and natural gas, growing wheat, corn, rape seed etc. but almost all our local consumer goods manufacturing has gone to China or south Asia!

I wish you good luck with your search for a cable release, but as yur P900 does not have the old style mechanical cable release connection point and I do not see an electrical cable release port on the P900, I suggest you are out of luck in finding a compatible cable release of any style. Suggest checking with Nikon before you spend anymore pounds sterling!!

Changing the subject, how is the weather your side?

Regards,

Garth
Hi Alfie, if you think you have it tough buying lo... (show quote)

Thank you very much for your help Garth, have checked with Nikon and they do not make one for the P900, and the weather here is as normal RAIN AGAIN, LOL. Regards, Alfie.

In order to definitively know, I would go to Nikon USA website, go to support and get in touch with them. Then you will KNOW!

BTW, you could go into the camera's menu system and look for something that relates to it. I use a wired remote on my DSLRs, and there is no place to plug it in on my P610, and nothing in the menu system either. Is there one on the P900?

Thank you for your help, Regards, Alfie.

Hi Alfie;

Lots of rain here too! But, today has dawned clear and sunny! The weather report says 2 weeks of sunshine and 25-30 degrees C temperatures. the weatherman is the only person I know who can be wrong in his forecasts 95% of the time and still keep his job!

Maybe some of our sunshine today will reach you in a few days Alfie.

Best regards,

Garth

Do you ever take photos in bad (rainy/snowy) weather? I'm afraid of ruinging my cameras and lenses as none of them are truly weather sealed.

Hi Garth, you can buy a rain cover for your camera, or you can put your camera into a large clear plastic bag with just the end of the lens out of the opening and put an elastic band around the neck of the bag at the end of the lens, this will keep the camera dry, and if you have a good poncho that will keep you dry.
Best Regards, Alfie.

Hi Alfie;

Good suggestions. I use the plastic bag idea on safari when in a dusty area so must try the plastic bag(s) when out in the rain, which we gets lots of here on the west coast!

Best regards,

Garth
