Unfortunately, I have never found one and I bought an OFF brand remote that doesn't work (from Amazon)

Yes, you can use the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote with the P900.

They don't list any cable releases, it will however work with the ML-L3 wireless trigger.

It's in the timer settings - 10s, 2s, then remote. I have a knock off from Amazon, it works but I have to be pretty close and point at the front of the camera

Read pages 117 and 118 in the manual for the P900, you have to set the camera up to use the remote.
