Hi Alfie;

Check pages 116, 117 and 118 of the Coolpix P900 Operators Manual, it clearly explains the use of the wireless remote. The camera body has two wireless receiver lenses built in. One in the front in the hand grip and one in the rear of the body in the lower right corner. While I do not own the P900, my neighbour does and uses the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote on his P900. Once properly setup in the camera's setup menu the wireless remote works flawlessly. Well, it did after he removed the little clear plastic insulator between the battery and the remote!
Good luck,
Garth

I use the ML-L3 wireless remote with my P900 all the time. I can assure you that it absolutely DOES work. Don't blame the tool for the failings of the operator.

It's in the timer settings - 10s, 2s, then remote. I have a knock off from Amazon, it works but I have to be pretty close and point at the front of the camera

Read pages 117 and 118 in the manual for the P900, you have to set the camera up to use the remote.

Clever dick, i have been in this game a lot longer than you have been alive.
read what i asked, i did not ask about a remote, i asked about a cable release.
I also did not say that the camera's remote system did not work, i said that the remote
that i bought did not work.

Hi Alfie;

Have you checked your operator's manual? Specifically pages 116, 117 and 118?

I am assuming however that your UK/European version of the camera does include this feature! As I live inCanada, I checked the Canadian Nikon website and downloaded the Coolpix P900 Operator's manual and on the pages quoted above it gives instructions how to setup and use the ML-L3 wireless remote. Be aware, if you setup the wireless remote and then turn off the camera, the function will have to be reset when you turn the camera back on, at least that is the case with my D5100 and D7200 Nikon models!

Right Alfie, but Nikon does not offer a cable release for the P900, at least not the model version sold here in North America and as the downloaded Operator's Manual makes no mention of a cable release accessory, I doubt you will find one, hence everyone's suggestion of using the wireless remote.

Good luck,

Garth

Hi Alfie, just took a closer look at the "Camera Parts Page 1" of the manual and it appears from the picture that there is only an HDMI and USB port on the P900, hence there is not a cable release port such as is found on the D5xxx and D7xxx Nikon models.
Suggest for absolute clarity you telephone UK Nikon support and ask if there is a cable release for the P900. While I have never called UK Nikon support, I sure have spoken with the Canadian Nikon support people and have found them very helpful!

Best of luck,

Garth

Thank you Garth, i will buy another remote and hopefully it works, a lot of the stuff we buy here turns out to come from china, but they are British based companies.

Hi Alfie, if you think you have it tough buying locally made products in the UK, you should try buying locally made in Canada!! We are good at knocking over large trees and sawing up timber into lumber for housing, digging up coal, pumping oil and natural gas, growing wheat, corn, rape seed etc. but almost all our local consumer goods manufacturing has gone to China or south Asia!

I wish you good luck with your search for a cable release, but as yur P900 does not have the old style mechanical cable release connection point and I do not see an electrical cable release port on the P900, I suggest you are out of luck in finding a compatible cable release of any style. Suggest checking with Nikon before you spend anymore pounds sterling!!

Changing the subject, how is the weather your side?

Regards,

Garth

Can anyone tell me if Nikon make a cable releace for the Coolpix P900.
Regards, Alfie.

In order to definitively know, I would go to Nikon USA website, go to support and get in touch with them. Then you will KNOW!

BTW, you could go into the camera's menu system and look for something that relates to it. I use a wired remote on my DSLRs, and there is no place to plug it in on my P610, and nothing in the menu system either. Is there one on the P900?

I have one and it works fine. You do have to go into the menu and turn it on as has been mentioned.
