I don't believe that either. I've had Cardinals here every year for 30 yrs. They fly in, build a nest, eat some food, take a bath and in the winter they sort of disappear. Then in the spring a new Cardinal family sets up shop. Only last year, they decided to stay and wear out their welcome. Never had them do this before along with the mirror fetish.
You'd love it here, Tom. We have about 3 doz or so cardinals that live in and around our yard all year. Every spring and summer they have bumper crops of babies. The babies are naughty and run around biting off flowers just for the fun of it, but they're just so cute.
