Last year she did "a bad bad thing" by buying a Boston Whaler for me. I forgave her.

I'll bet that was tough!!!

Had? Sounds like she's still doing a good job! I understand the logic but what camera did she buy? I just looked at your location and we're almost neighbors, we used to drag our boat over there and fish for salmon.

She bought a Panasonic ZS100. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1211983-REG/panasonic_dmc_zs100_digital_camera.html

It gets an "82% Gold" and "Best [Compact] for Travel" at dPReview. https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/2017-roundup-compact-enthusiast-zoom-cameras

I live near Tacoma. Unless you count a 8 foot inflatable, I don't have a boat anymore. Puget Sound salmon fishing was great when I had the Whaler. I could take the kids out and almost always bring home a fish. Before I sold my last boat, I didn't catch a fish in three years. My son that I used to fish with now has a 20 foot Grady. He can't catch fish in Puget Sound either. So, he takes a trip or two to British Columbia every year.

Our usual routine is to share the morning hours sipping coffee, reading the news and clearing the email.

This morning, after about an hour, my DW said "I think I need a better camera". She had three! I have four.

By the second hour of the morning she had it down to three. She watched a couple of CameraStore videos and made the decision.

She traded in two cameras, returned a pair of shoes and cashed in a Canon printer rebate card. She said the camera was "free".

She is a wonderful photographer. Her composition skills far exceed mine. I have fantastic gear, she takes better pictures.

This is going to be tough on my ego!

At least it was free.

We did the dame thing, British Columbia, and fished in the "Export A" salmon derby. The guy fishing right next to me won the $50,000.00 first prize . That was crazy and maybe I was then too, we fished out of a 13' tri haul with a 35hp motor. Today we have an 18' but now with the traffic over your way we just don't fish anymore, we buy fish when we want some. I'm in that other big city on the other side of the state.

Does that city start with an "S", "Y" or "W". I've lived in two of them.

"we just don't fish anymore"

I shouldn't admit it, but my best fishing is now at the freezer section in Costco.

I don't own an M4/3 camera, but if I did, it would be the ZS100. I think she's probably going have that camera "tethered". Excellent decision, especially for a Panny-person.

Van,

The ZS100 is 1". The similar sized LX100 is m4/3 but doesn't use all of the pixels. The ZS100 gets a lot more telephoto because it can with the 1" sensor. The LX100 does not fit in a pocket nearly as well as the ZS100. My DW did have a m4/3 Panasonic GM1 (long out of production). She didn't like how it felt in her hands so it was part of the trade in.

Yes, I got myself confused by the "hundreds" but I'll be happy to go with both. I know a person who carries the one and I know a person who carries the other. They seem to be equally delighted with their choices. _Van

Mine did too! It was in 1975. She bought a 1965 16 footer with a 100hp Johnson. Loved that boat. Her too!

Mine bought me an 8ft inflatable with a 2.5 hp suzi motor. sure beats rowing the old hard side to shore.

You're one lucky boater. I had a Boston Whaler for about ten years. Finally sold it for what I paid. Mine was the 13 footer. What one did you get?

I had an early 16 and a later 15. My step dad had a 13 and a 9.

I once had the pleasure of meeting Dick Fisher on the phone. He was a customer of a company I worked for. Mr. Fisher said his favorite was the 15, but didn't tell me why.
