I have a a5000 I got it so I could use all my old lenses from my Exakta and Rollie. Granted they are all Zeiss lenses, manual focus but so what?.. That is what I learned on. I am very happy with the results. The beauty of the a5000 and a6000 series's is that you can use almost anything on them. All you need is the $10 adapters. Happy Shooting

I am seriously impressed with the Sigma 60mm f/2.8.

that is one serious crop. I would say about 90%. Still looks great.

For everyday use, I the 18-200 mm SEL18200LE fills most of my needs. The 10-18 mm SEL1018 and 35 mm f1.8SEL36F18 round things out for more specialized shots.
But as someone mentioned, it is the photographer more than the equipment, which also includes knowing the boundaries of ones equipment.
This shot was at 200 mm, f 6.3, 1/500 sec, ISO 100

has anyone had any luck with lenses beyond the sony kit lens for the a 6000? i have to say, i have not been impressed with the kit lens for the sony a 6000. i did buy a used prime lens - 1.8/50 - and results have been quite a bit better. thinking about the more expensive sony/zeiss lens option for this camera but it aint cheap. anyone used the sony ziess lenses? thank you.

I bought it with the two kit lenses. Love the 55-210
Then purchased the 3.5 30 mm macro
And the 1-105 G OSS which I mainly use love it.

I sold my 55-210 and purchased the 18-200. It is on the camera 'ready' 90% of the time. For DOF, portraits and lower light conditions I bought 50mm 1.8. Very satisfied with both (just that zooming with a prime requires my legs) ... don't forget Clear Image Zoom for great 2x zoom using their software in camera.

. A6000 is still a great choice especially for the price. I use the Zeiss 24/1.8 and the Sony pro G 28-105 oss zoom lens. I would also suggest that you get the Busch or Freidman's book to learn all of the camera's many capabilities.

In terms of value, versatility and image quality the best lens upgrade you can make for your A6000 is the Sony E PZ 18–105 mm F4 G OSS. This is the one I use 90% of the time. <snip> … but I have no regrets going with the 18-105.
I also have the Sony/Zeiss E 24mm/1.8 which is my favorite prime lens, but it lacks OSS which limits its use a bit.
All of the other Sony/Zeiss lenses are FE for the FF A7 series and are a bit bigger and heavier than I want to carry.
I agree. The Sony 18-105 G is the way to go. It's a little on the big side but all functions are internal - the lens size does not change with zoom or focus and the front end does not rotate making polarizing filters or graduated filters easy to use. I use it on an a6500 and a (lighter, slimmer) NEX 6 and, surprisingly, it does not seem too big. It balances well and (what sold me on this lens) it's marvelous for video.

I wasn't satisfied with the sharpness of the kit lens, so I bought a Sony/Zeiss 16-70 f/4 and love it.

In December we spent 3 weeks in Florence, and we just spent 2 weeks cruising from Athens to Venice. My Nikon stayed home, and my 16-70 stayed on my camera. At $1100, it's not cheap, but it does everything I want it to do. I'm a landscape/garden/travel photographer.

I had the Sony 16-70 f4 and it was poor. Very sharp in the center and fuzzy on the sides. It didn't even compare with the 16-50mm kit lens. I sent it back and bought the Sony 18-105 and I am very happy with it. I also have the Sigma 60mm and it is super sharp. Also the Sigma 30mm f1.4 is a super lens. On my Sony a6000 it is equivalent to a 45mm lens. At f1.4 it isolates the subject nicely, some thing that a f4.0 or even f2.8 doesn't do. For fisheye and 12mm f2.0 ultra wide, the Rokinon or Samyang can't be beat. The Samyang is exactly the same as the Rokinon and usually cheaper. Both made in the same factory.

I have several Sony E mount, and one of the first lenses I purchased was the Sony/Zeiss E 24mm/f1.8. This was/is almost always mounted on my 6000. I have used it on the 6500 also. It is one of the best lenses I have owned in over 65 years of photography. Great for "walk around", as well as landscape, and general subjects. I have quite a collection of Sony lenses (Also have the A7/A7II), and the 18 to 105mm/f4 is a better zoom than the "kit" for the compact series. For Wide angle, the 10 thru 18mm/f4 is a very good lens.

I love my 18-200 carry it everywhere. All over Europe and the US hiking and carry it all day with no need to set it down. Fits all my needs and is nit heavy at all That being said I am considering the 18- 105 G. Enjoy what you get and learn to use it to your best benefits. Each lens has its pro's and cons. enjoy working it out.
