has anyone had any luck with lenses beyond the sony kit lens for the a 6000? i have to say, i have not been impressed with the kit lens for the sony a 6000. i did buy a used prime lens - 1.8/50 - and results have been quite a bit better. thinking about the more expensive sony/zeiss lens option for this camera but it aint cheap. anyone used the sony ziess lenses? thank you.

I use my A6000 when I need a compact camera. I bought it with the standard 16-50mm lens and then got a used 55-210. I don't plan to invest a lot of money in lenses for this camera. Below is a link to recommended lenses.

For two years now I have used the Zeiss E 16-70mm ƒ/4 and although reviews, vary I personally am very pleased with the results. Such a useful focal length range and some of the criticisms levelled at it, in practice, has never caused problems. It is however quite expensive. It’s worth looking at B&H customer reviews and have also attached is a link to Imaging Resource review.

In terms of value, versatility and image quality the best lens upgrade you can make for your A6000 is the Sony E PZ 18–105 mm F4 G OSS. This is the one I use 90% of the time. However, it is fairly large and heavy which changes the whole size/weight benefit of the A6000. If I had the money at the time I might have gone with the Sony/Zeiss E 16-70 mm F4 ZA OSS, but I have no regrets going with the 18-105.
I also have the Sony/Zeiss E 24mm/1.8 which is my favorite prime lens, but it lacks OSS which limits its use a bit.
All of the other Sony/Zeiss lenses are FE for the FF A7 series and are a bit bigger and heavier than I want to carry.

I have a few lenses for my A6300. My favorites:
Travel, the Sony 16-70 f4 (SEL1670Z).
Sports: Sony 55-210 (SEL55210).
Special: Sony 50mm f1.8 (SEL50F18)
The attached compares a very small portion of shots taken with the 16-70mm and 50mm lenses.
For pixel peekers, Best results are from the 50mm processed through Piccure+ (http://piccureplus.com). Noticeably better than the 16-70mm

In the meantime, for normal use, the kit lens aren't half bad if you stay away from the extreme ends of both aperture and focus. If I require a better lens, I have an adapter I use with Canon lens - nearly as good as any of the other lens made for Sony and I have several. It's another option. With the kit lens I stay within a range of f/5.6 and f/11, the shutter speed I need, and use auto iso to compensate for exposure but then I'm old, slow, and lazy. When shooting landscapes I work the hyperfocal point. With everything else, if I need a wider aperture I select what I need, use measures to ensure the best shot possible, like using a tripod/trigger and take what I get. If it isn't adequate, out come the Canon lens.
