I'd rather have the Sony a99m2. 12 fps is plenty fast for anything, if the AF system is up to it.

Thanks dad. Paternalism I can do without. Take that to another more receptive thread.

Lets do the Canon monopod test with the Sony a9. 300 f 2.8 attached, pouring rain and a fixed to a monopod leaning against a wall. Let it fall over on the hard track surface and pick it up and start shooting with it. There is more to a Canon DX body than how well it shoots. They set the bar for durability. The Sony hasn't even hit the ground yet and people are idolizing it. Right now its just a picture in an add. Wait till the real shooters get a hold of it.

Looks pretty good to me. Definitely dooms Nikon to a distant 3rd and if Sony gets the lenses to the quality of Canon L lenses and pro accessories and a viewfinder refresh rate good enough for pros Canon will be in a battle for the pro market.

Sony currently have Ziess auto focus lenses equal to anything Canon makes. Also their G Master lenses are just as good if not better than Canon L's.

I guess what gives me food for thought is the possibility that the technology will eventually "trickle down" to a more affordable camera (much like we saw in the D5 and D500). If or when that happens, I do think it will adversely affect Nikon's bottom line. My 2 cents.

Some of the A9 technology will migrate into a Sony crop sensor camera (A9000?). That price will be in the D500 range.

The Sony mirrorless A9000 series camera's are still too small and the Sony stable of fast telephoto lenses is non existent. Still no threat to either Canon or Nikon in professional sports photography.

Right now neither of the big 2 companies has anything to worry about. I'm sure that both of those companies have done their research and have the technology to put Sony to shame if they want. It's just that they are waiting to see what the market will bear. Why should they put out a product when Sony will do it for them?

It takes time and significant resources to produce a mirrorless camera to compete with the A6500, A7R2, A7S2, or A9. Which camera lines will Nikon and Canon have to stop development on (and lose market share) to refocus their development resources on mirrorless?

Camera is hard to hold especially with a long lens, and Sony has still not made a commitment in producing fast 2.8 E mount telephoto's for this series of camera's probably because they are so awkward to hold. Advantage Nikon and Canon.

Really! With a long lens on a camera, you hold the combination just with the camera grip? I support the camera + lens with a hand held under the lens. The hand on the camera is there to adjust exposure and release the shutters--it doesn't support any weight.

That would be a bore editing the series of 650.

Pros manage to edit far larger numbers of photos on a regular basis. That is because they have an efficient workflow and know the difference between great, good, and bad images.

In Canon's case, probably none. You appear to have a very simplistic view of product development in this kind of technology arena.

If there was a hand grip on the Sony, which there isn't. And, with a long telephoto attached to a very small body you cannot just hold the camera by the grip because it doesn't have one of any size.

Really, if you took 650 shots of the same thing in 30 some seconds you do not feel it would be boring looking at all 650 shots, regardless of the effective workflow.

That's exactly what I would expect. And when it does Nikon and Canon better be ready to respond.

Agreed. From what I can see Canon is -albeit very slowly and carefully - working towards being able to respond. Nikon I haven't seen very much....
