I'm new to photography. 62 years old. I love outdoor activities and what got me into photography was the disappointing photos I was taking with a point and shoot camera while on backpacking trips in sevral beautiful national parks. I could never capture what I was seeing. A friend was upgrading to a new camera and sold me a "lightly" used Nikon D7100 body. I've since added 5 lenses. I've taken several one-on-one lessons at Precision Camera in Austin. Learning the ropes with the camera and Lightroom. I really like landscapes, wildlife, birds, stars and of course photos of my grandson. I have much to learn and any and all advice is appreciated.

Welcome! I'm a native Texan from the coast and living in NC now. If you are near the hill country, which it seems that you may be, you have a world of scenic outdoors to shoot. And while you are out driving... please capture the wild flowers growing along side of our state highways, and upload them here..... I miss that beautiful site!
You will enjoy this forum. Lots of different personalities, but everyone means well and will jump through hoops to answer questions.
Welcome!

Welcome to the UHH from a former Austin resident.
Welcome to the Hog, from another Texan.
I know the feeling loosing a great shot to a not so great camera. Not punching in a product but because of the same reason I was looking for a good point and shot small camera. I came upon Olympus tough model and it goes every where with me. I had so many great picture from it. I'll never give up my large cameras but this one is my constant companion. The newer version shoots raw which I really like. Olympus TG-4
