They are targeting a different market than the pro D5/1DXII shooters - mirrorless is still a tough sell for pros - just witness any sporting event. It might be good for wedding pros though where a silent full frame might be handy. I am not a pro, but a serious enthusiast. Even if I had Bloomberg's bank account I would probably not buy it - a D810 would be more my style.
The are targeting EXACTLY pro photojournalists and sports shooters; the very people likely to buy and use those flagship DSLRs from canikon. The A9 is spec'ed to compete against them and priced to beat them in that competition.
Mirrorless is NOT a tough sell for pros. Plenty of pros use them as witnessed by Sony sales over the last 3 years and keep watching those sporting events. You WILL see more and more cream mixed in with those black and white lenses.
